It's like he escapes again and he's in Episode 8.

Well good thing about this fight is people can't say Old Ben was weak in ANH now, Vader already got his justice in earlier fights.
Just garbage choreography at the time of ANH

I wish we would've gotten to see what Vader has to go through every day. On screen he's always just an intimidating figure that kills people. I want to see what's in his books/comics... I would absolutely suggest reading the Vader comic. Probably the best Marvel's done so far with the license. Yeah the stuff in them is what I want to see on screen. I kinda like that more than reading... lol

That was.... anti-climatic. And misleading. I do like the way he finally dies. But it was all way too short. I wish there were more lines after he's "struck" down. Like Maul was built up from TCW and rebels to be this tragic character. They kind of threw him away. He needed more "redemption" at the end. Meh.

I'm really conflicted here. On one hand, most of it was beautifully atmospheric, but on the other the pacing went overdrive by the time Obi-Wan steps in. Don't get me wrong it ended just the way I wanted, but like you said CBK it was way too brisk. The duel almost felt like an intentional "Psych!" to anyone expecting something wowing. Despite that, this is still one of the best season 3's produced.

You can check it out on YouTube if you're curious, but don't want to see half an episode of Ezra wandering a desert, which could've easily been Maul contemplating his life, but that would be too interesting

If they're not gonna do anything interesting with Maul, they could at least spend the full time on his death. That face off alone could warrant twenty-two minutes.

I dunno if I'm being picky... but isn't the whole point of Maul wasn't actually to kill Kenobi? When he kills Satine he even says it. He doesn't even know Kenobi escaped after Mandalore, I don't think Maul's purpose is really t okill Obi Wan like he said. So having Rebels believe that is.... wrong. And after Maul dies he should've returned back to his original body like Savage did another continuity error. Maul's life isn't built upon just killing Kenobi he didn't want to kill him.

Yeah... in the Clone Wars comic based on one of the cancelled arcs it was revealed that Maul's real goal was to kill Sidious, not Obi-wan. He got his revenge on Obi-wan when he killed Satine, that should have been the end of that storyline.

Well... they gave it 2 minutes apperently: Seriously, this is absolutely ridiculous. If you are going to kill off Maul, one of the most hyped characters during TCW, you should at least spent some more time on the final fight. Even Adi Gallia got a longer death scene. And no mention of Qui-Gon? I knew Rebels was bad but this...

TBH you can't even tell how he died. I know rebels can't show graphic but maybe show some singe marks where he got cut. First time I watched I thought he died from exhaustion???

I'm assuming Obi-wan slashed him with his lightsaber... but yeah it's totally unclear. Does Rebels never show any kind of wounds?

I was expecting a longer fight but tbh I feel this was a fitting end, we already had multiple fights between Kenobi and Maul and Kenobi ultimately had to be the one to kill him. For Maul I think he accepted the possibility he would die there and it's not like he could accomplish anything else at this point.
The episode overall was fairly good, Tatooine was pretty well done but like Mav said it was a great atmosphere all around.

He can't kill the Sith, he's not strong enough and there's no possibility at this point where he could have a chance. He even admits in twilight of the apprentice he can not fight Vader alone

One detail I do like is that Maul tries to kill Obi-Wan with the same moves he did to kill Qui-Gon. Nice, subtle nod, made even better by the fact Obi-Wan was clearly prepared for it. Doesn't stop me praying for a sort of "extended edition" on DVD

Also Mauls Death highly resembles Obi-Wans own IMO

I still haven't seen the full episode, but I spoiled it for myself on Youtube last night. I couldn't help it. I get what they were going for... it reminded me of an old western duel where the two opponents draw their guns and it's over in a couple seconds. But at the same time, I don't think that's how Maul should go out. I wasn't expecting him to have a Duel of the Fates style fight with old Obi-Wan, but something a bit more substantial would have been better. Ah well. It's pretty surreal to finally see Maul dead though.

What was the point of this? Like CBK and Pinda said I don't think Maul really still wanted to kill Kenobi. Or maybe he did for some new reason. We don't even know because his entire arc is a huge mess because of TCW's cancellation. Even his lightsaber like sometime he has one blade sometimes two.. They can't just have a 15 year gap and then randomly have Maul go to Tatooine and get killed by Obi-Wan in what was literally a two second duel. Like their lightsaber clashed for actually two seconds. I don't want a 22 min duel but I would've liked it to be meaningful... And then he dies? I'm just so... confused... this had no background. It would've been nice to have an episode before this where Obi-Wan senses Maul and prepares or something.. Maybe make Maul actually look for Luke... idk something more meaningful than this bullshit.
I genuinely liked the beginning when Ezra comes to Tatooine. I fucking hate Ezra but it felt cool and sort of like TFA's opening scene with Poe. The raiders were cool. But it's all so random with no direction or realism..

Better plot: Ezra finds out Obi-Wan is alive and goes to look for the Jedi that could help the Rebellion. When he finds him Obi-Wan explains why he can't help or is vague about it. Then introduce Maul or if there isn't time, do it in the next episode. Maul is looking for Luke and Obi-Wan kills him to protect Luke. Something like that more fleshed out obviously. Now that is almost what they did but they still didn't quite get it. Unnecessary waste of time in showing Zeb sleeping, stealing the A-wing etc.
It's so frustrating how nearly every time they're so close to getting it right but they fuck it up with shit. If they wanted to show this, it should've been a two parter. It was just a waste.

After watching it a few more times I actually really like the "duel"... It was super short but still pretty cool especially if you read more into it. Showing a super long and "flashy" duel would not have matched what we saw in ANH, and all the stuff about Obi-Wan changing forms and whatnot... Also maybe Maul just gave up right after his first swing. He has nothing to live for so maybe he convinced himself that his goal was to kill Kenobi. But then he'd have nothing after that...
It's good if you interpret it yourself but they shouldn't make people do too much of that... Without closely analyzing what happened, it's lame and doesn't make a lot of sense.

But did Maul actually do anything lasting or important in Rebels? Like is there any reason why he should have survived this long?

Yeah I noticed the first time Kenobi was reacting and studying him. But on my second watch, the conversation about purpose makes a lot of sense too. Kenobi has one and Maul doesn't. Maul realizes this. Also you can see where he got cut, right after Kenobi closes his eyes it zooms out on his body and his lower right section of his stomach is smoking from the cut, it's just hard to see because it's night. And yes I looked twice to make sure it wasn't the fire lol
