I skimmed through it not sure if I really understood but the author is saying the show got bad because we couldn't relate to characters? We couldn't exactly related to characters in the beginning (because almost everyone was fucking evil or psycho) and it was good then. I think there's certain ways to tell stories that are able appeal to a large audience. Shakespeare's writing for example is revered because his stories contained several age old archetypes like the hero cycle and characters with fatal flaws. I hope the hero cycle is not forgotten because it is my favorite type of story and I don't really care if I can relate to the hero honestly. I thought Jon would go through the hero cycle but they basically just sidelined him towards the end They're saying that the show's tone shifted when GOT began to let its characters drive the narrative (psychologically-oriented, like most products of Hollywood) instead of using overarching institutions and events propelling the story (sociologically-oriented, like how GRRM wrote his novels). In other words, the early seasons allowed characters to develop and do their own things, but we didn't follow a single character and view the world solely from their perspective. We instead viewed the world of GOT through various perspectives and how they changed via events happening and society's established institutions. By following these global events and societal foundations, we could discern how every character thought the way they did, even if we disagreed. It also enabled major characters like Ned and Robb to die without it seeming the narrative to that point suddenly vanished. These characters weren't written as leads, but rather players in a world we were watching carry on. Later seasons began to reverse this though as we saw characters like Jon and Dany become ones we were meant to view the world through. It doesn't say the latter is bad, but rather it was jarring to have a switch so late in the series, especially when bad writing accompanied it. Thanks for dumbing it down lmao... But interesting I didn't think about it like that. I think it's more unique the way GRRM did it

If you believe the theory that Bran is a master manipulator who engineered a situation where he would be King, then maybe it means the Night King’s goal was to kill him and prevent his tyrannical rule.

Surprisingly strong argument for Edmure Tully.

This is pretty much what I expected to be in the actual episode. It would have been a great ending if the Three-eyed Raven planned it all (maybe not by warging main characters and taking their agency away entirely though). But that is only vaguely implied... and the consequences of that implication are just ignored entirely. The TER clearly knew what would happen. He sacrificed King's Landing and over a million lives to become king. The TER in the books (called the Three-Eyed Crow) is a very dark and menacing character. His cave is filled with skeletons and he makes Bran drink something that appears to be human blood. This is NOT a happy ending, even though the writers seem to think it is. This should be an absolutely terrifying ending.

I’ve been watching some of seasons 3-6... really just watching the Kings Landing and Daenerys stuff (skipping all the long Nights Watch segments) but the show was just so much better... slower pace and everything.

I can't really distinguish each season it's all kind of a blur tbh... But I remember my enjoyment was at an all time high around the red wedding whichever season that was and then kinda decreased after. Decreased even more after the death of Joffrey

I think they should’ve killed Brienne in “The Long Night.” I think her death could’ve caused Jaime to spiral out of control and devolve into his old self.

Don’t know if I’ve said this but I theorized that the reason they didn’t reveal the truth about Tysha was because they meant to do it later. They indirectly mentioned her again so maybe it’s true. What's the truth? Tyrion's first wife doesn't feel like a very relevant plot point at the moment She wasn’t a whore like Tywin and Jaime made Tyrion believe. But Tywin had Jaime make up a lie that it had all been arranged. Jaime tells Tyrion this when he frees him. This causes Tyrion to hate Jaime and tell him Cersei was cheating on him with Lancel. And that leads Jaime and Cersei to kinda break up. Also the info on Tysha pushes Tyrion over the edge and makes him kill Tywin.

The Winds of Winter (Season 6 finale) is my favorite episode. I kind of cheat and group that together with Battle of the Bastards. I still think that was one of the best battles ever put to film or TV (even if Jon was kind of dumb for charging and Sansa didn't tell Jon about the Vale).

“You’ve given me less than that, all my life, but you’ll give me this. What did you do with Tysha?”
“Tysha?”
He does not even remember her name. “The girl I married.”
“Oh, yes. Your first whore.”
Tyrion took aim at his father’s chest. “The next time you say that word, I’ll kill you.”
“You do not have the courage.”
“Shall we find out? It’s a short word, and it seems to come so easily to your lips.” Tyrion gestured impatiently with the bow. “Tysha. What did you do with her, after my little lesson?”
“I don’t recall.”
“Try harder. Did you have her killed?”
His father pursed his lips. “There was no reason for that, she’d learned her place… and had been well paid for her day’s work, I seem to recall. I suppose the steward sent her on her way. I never thought to inquire.”
“On her way where?”
“Wherever whores go.”
Tyrion’s finger clenched. The crossbow whanged just as Lord Tywin started to rise. The bolt slammed into him above the groin and he sat back down with a grunt.

Another thing that was rushed over I guess I kinda really want to read the books..

Bran should’ve been Master of Whisperers. He’d be great at it.
I don’t know who should be Master of Coin, but not Bronn. Guy doesn’t know shit about loans even.

Maybe Bronn could be Master of War. He has done a lot of fighting and has been second in command to great strategists like Jaime and Tyrion.
Jaime would probably be ideal for this position but he’s dead.

Jaime would probably be ideal for this position but he’s dead. Bronn doesn't really need any role like that imo. Should've kept him a scoundrel and given him a castle or money or something like he was promised. They just put him on the council because he was someone we knew and it would be a nice happy ending with the gang being in charge of Westeros together as friends
