Welcome to the first week of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Rewatch! We're gonna be taking a look back at all the highs and lows of the show, starting with the film and the two "episode sixteens" that oddly precede it.
July 27th - August 2nd 2018

I haven't rewatched these yet, but I remembering liking both of the "prequel" episodes and I think the movie will probably be enjoyable just because I know where Ahsoka ends up.

Honestly I've actually only rewatched the movie entirely maybe once, saw it in theatres and then watched it again a couple years later.
So I think there's quite a bit I have forgotten mainly in the second half of the movie.

The movie is probably one of the worst Clone Wars thing... aside from Sunny Day in the Void, screw that episode.

One of the best things about TCW movie though is that they got Samuel L. Jackson for Windu and Christopher Lee for Dooku

Cat and Mouse is one of my favorite episodes in the early seasons of TCW, I think I'd give it a 9/10.
How long do you guys think Cat and Mouse takes place after AOTC? I'd say at least 3 months; Anakin became a Jedi Knight and got his eye scar, in the pre 2008 TCW canon I think Ventress gave him that, was that still the case post 2008? The argument that Anakin and Kenobi have is also very similar to some of their AOTC arguments I noticed.

One thing that's kinda odd to me. Why does the Republic engage a fleet of that size with only 3 Venators? I know Republic tech is generally superior but still that seems a bit crazy. I guess half of the Separatist ships are the Lucrehulk Class cruisers that are mainly supply ships/ fighter storage ships but still they seem vastly out numbered especially when they don't know who the enemy commander is before hand.

It's easy to see why the separatist performance deteriorates over time though. At the start of the war they have a lot of unique and strong battle commanders (Trench, Loathsome, the fleet commander Nemoidian from Ryloth, etc ) and then torwards the end of the war they are basically relying on smarter Droids like Kalani and the other super tactical Droids to win them battles and they just are not adaptable enough.

That's an interesting idea now that you point it out. The more skillful Separatist leaders were taken out in the early days of the Clone Wars, leaving only droids to command in later battles. Not sure if TCW crew did that intentionally, but it makes sense both in-universe and in our world.

Here's my attempt at a scuffed meme. Figured it plays well given recent events

Yeah either that or the budget was just too thin by the time of season 5 onwards and they didn't have much to spare for new leaders so they reused the same model (Kalani's) over and over again. And they couldn't borrow from previous seasons cause all the leaders were captured

Do we post memes here because I think I got one from cat and mouse... lol
But anyways I started a little early. Well I guess not really that early... But Cat and Mouse is a solid episode. They always did the proper war episodes really well. Besides this, Shadow of Malevolence, and Storm over Ryloth I don't think they really did any other proper space battle episodes unless I'm forgetting something.
You're right newan, 3 cruisers is not enough to engage an entire blockade... And then Obi-Wan comes in with just one more cruiser...

Okay but I actually really have to praise TCW team for this one, it was so original. Like submarine warfare in Star Wars? Thank you, Dave, very cool! They did a great job with the suspense and stuff with the countdowns and whatnot. I remember in an interview or something they said the idea of that ship stemmed from the scene in TESB where they're looking for the Falcon and they say "No ship that small has a cloaking device". Anakin even says that in this episode. But tbh i feel like it makes more sense for small ships to have a cloaker... Like I can't see something star destroyer sized being able to cloak... idk. We haven't really seen that. Might've been a good tactic for the Resitance in TLJ.... lol

The argument that Anakin and Kenobi have is also very similar to some of their AOTC arguments I noticed. It looks like the war's been going on for a little while, so about 3 months could be accurate. There's clearly some history already between Ventress, Anakin, and Obi-Wan based on their encounter in The Hidden Enemy, which strengthens that claim. Having an ATOC model for some of the characters would've been neat, but it's not a big deal. Assuming there was at least a 3 month time jump between Geonosis and Christophsis, his "pre-ROTS" model makes enough sense.

Trench cheating death twice is kinda odd though... So Yularen fought him before the Clone Wars at Malastare Narrows. The battle was between the Republic and the Corporate Alliance apparently. They give some more background in a guide book but it seems to be Legends now. Basically there was a dispute over fuel and then they went to war...... I think a lawsuit or something is more reasonable instead of a military conflict but okay lol

Cat and Mouse was a really strong episode. Both fun to watch, creative, and fitting for the tone of the war. I'd give it 9/10.
The Hidden Enemy was also really enjoyable, especially since it offered an inside look on the clones and some good dialogue between Rex and Cody. The concept of a traitor is intriguing, especially since that is common in wars, and it demonstrated that not all the clones viewed the war the same way. I'd rate it 7/10.

The conflicts during the prequel era are weird. A bunch of rich people want to cecede from the Republic so they get the Trade Federation to block trade... And then, what you would expect to be a relatively peaceful entity, actually has armies of killer robots that they use to invade planets... To stop trade I guess? Lol. Really wish they made a movie about the Separatist crisis instead of just introducing it in the crawl. I think people would dislike the political stuff less if they fleshed it out a little

I think people would dislike the political stuff less if they fleshed it out a little It has the potential to be really interesting, but instead they make too many leaps in the plot that results in a messy outcome. The OT kept things simple and it worked based on how the story progressed. The PT was ambitious, but it didn't flesh out all the ideas properly, which somewhat ruined the story.

Why did the republic have experienced admirals and fleets a few months into the war if it did not have an army before AOTC?

Why did the republic have experienced admirals and fleets a few months into the war if it did not have an army before AOTC? Maybe various planets already had military forces, so they were able to enter the Republic's military already experienced? I'm not really sure if there's an actual explanation or if it's a plot hole.

Yeah I think we can assume each planet had (and probably would still have) its own military before they made a clone army for the whole galaxy. Although I wonder where Naboo's army was... Would be good for them to expand on pre Clone Wars stuff
