Going through the early pages of this thread brought back some memories... I don't think there will ever be a TV series that can top the first four seasons of Game of Thrones for me. I remember watching Game of Thrones basically all day (and night) five years ago. I was completely drawn into the story. The world and its many characters seemed to have so much depth, the story seemed so realistic in a sense and not predictable as almost all other series I had seen. I think I watched the entirety of the first four seasons in just a few days and that was the most fun I ever had watching ANY series or movie. It is kind of sad to think I will never get to rewatch Game of Thrones with an empty mind and will likely never feel that way about a TV series again. I am sure we are going to see Game of Thrones-style shows in the future... that only makes sense given its success. But I think this is a one-time thing. People can try to mimic it, but I don't think it will work nearly as well as the original... Sure, maybe the prequel series will be good... or one of the other fantasy TV series in the making. They are even in the early stages of making a Stormlight Archive TV series (from the books I mentioned before). If that ever happens I am sure it will be great... but not as great as Game of Thrones. They better make that final season a good one deserving of its origins.

Everyone is screwed in Game of Thrones... Except Rickon

I like Stannis the best and he is still technically the true king. If Tommen died would the throne just go to Stannis anyways since Roberts "children" would all be dead. Yeah, let's hope Tommen jumps out a window so Stannis can just be king. Jaime and Cersei would be like oh Potato is Awesome. What the hell? How did you predict this a year before it happened??

I feel like the shortened seasons might be less of a story decision than a production decision. Season 7 definitely felt like 10 crammed into 7. I heard HBO wanted them to go to like 10 seasons, but the show runners seemed pretty burnt out and wanted to move on to other things. But yeah, I don't think it's a story decision. Season 7 should have been 10 episodes and Season 8 will almost definitely be better with more than 6. Hmm looks like you changed your mind: Eh, 8 seasons feels like too much, especially because it seems like they're moving at such a fast pace now. I thought the whole point of pushing things along was so that they could do two more seasons (one for each of the last two books). I guess we'll just have to see how they split it up now.

I watched The Children and Hardhome again last night. Both are among my favorites in the series. I might try and do The Door and The Winds of Winter tonight. I'm planning to watch a handful before S8, and my focus is on ones pertinent to the overall story, especially the White Walkers.

Well... it has been nearly four years. I still think 10 seasons or even 9 might have been too many. After seeing Season 7, it definitely would have benefited from a few more episodes. I just hope Season 8 doesn't feel super rushed and is still satisfying.

I have been trying to rewatch the entire series while showing it to my girlfriend for the first time. I hope to finish it all before the series finale... but right now we are only on season 2 episode 3... and unlike me she has to study for things... so that might not work. I will definitely rewatch some of the better episodes like Hardhome and The Door though. Also fun fact. When I was watching season 1 with my girlfriend she was shocked by Viserys's death. She said he seemed too important to die this early. So that was kind of funny knowing what would happen just three episodes later...

I think if season 7 and 8 had been full seasons with the finales being like 90 minutes it would have been completely fine. They probably could have filled another season or two... but that would have been dragging it out. We just need a bit more than we are currently getting I think.

Also, while rewatching season 1 I noticed how well made this story is. There is so much foreshadowing for things that happen MUCH later or are probably going to happen in season 8.

I watched The Door, Battle of the Bastards, and The Winds of Winter. These are some of my favorite GOT episodes, and Bastards or Winter might even be my absolute favorite.
Now I'll watch the final two episodes of S7 just to refresh myself of where things are.

So I was thinking of other outcomes, and this popped into my head. During the Battle of Winterfell, Jon, Dany, and the others are leading the charge against the army of the undead. We've been led to think this will be a major defeat for the living. Yet what if the final moments of this episode allow the living to emerge victorious, only for the episode to cut to the Night King (who was absent for the battle) arriving at Kings Landing and burning all of it. Then he resurrects the city and now has an even larger army to use for his bigger goal.
This would be pretty crazy, and I'm not sure if they'd do it. Yet it would be an interesting twist, especially if Cersei "died" here also.

I have heard that theory plenty of times this week... but it doesn't make sense because if the Night King burned down Kings Landing he couldn't revive anyone... fire kills wights.

Well, technically its tomorrow for me... But I am planning to stay awake until 3:30 AM so I can download the episode and watch it and probably stay awake until like 5-6 AM... I am not sure if I can make it though. I have actually been trying to fix my messed up sleeping times... so I actually get tired during the night sometimes now... But I guess I should just stare at a screen all day, that is supposed to help you stay awake.

I want to believe something major will happen, but it's difficult to think that when literally every season premiere is mostly setting the stage. What could be interesting is if they use a cold opening for tonight.

I was hoping every episode to go up on HBO go but I guess HBO doesn't do that... I guess I get it with GoT because it's a broadcast show or whatever it's called but some of their other shows that are meant to be streamed have weekly episodes too. It's a dated format tbh...

Apparently people that went to see the premiere said episode 1 is more than just setting things up... but I doubt that. I think we will just see some reunions at Winterfell. Jon learning about his parents (and the tension that will create). And some stuff with Cersei preparing her army. And maybe a bit of Theon... and perhaps Jaime arrives North in the end... if he ever makes it that far.

And I want to enjoy the speculation, theories and memes between episodes one last time.
