I always wonder why scientists think water is that crucial for life to exist... I mean, sure all life forms we know need water, but all life forms we know originate from Earth, so they are pretty much the same type of life originating from a planet that's mostly covered in water. But who's to say other types of life, that don't need water, can't exist? It seems foolish to assume that life as we know it is the only type there is.

I remember seeing an article somewhere saying that life forms on other planets could even be ammonia or silicon based but those claims haven't been investigated much. Even if there are alternatives to water, the number of life forms in the universe that would use these alternatives would be very few because the ingredients to make water are far more common.

But water itself isn't that common. But my point is that some scientists seem to think that life can only exist under certain circumstances, but there's really no proof to support such claims as long as the only life forms we know have the same origins and thus exist under the same circumstances.

A dutch company has found a way to grow plants in building that is 100 times more effective that regular farming outside... With this method all food for the entire world population could be farmed in an area as small as the Netherlands while only using 10% of the water currently being used for farming. I wonder if this will allow people to produce their own food in the future... I mean if it is really this effective why would we still need farmers to make our food? Just get yourself some plants, use this new farming method in your house and you'll have plenty of food. Then buy yourself a 3D printer and you'll never have to leave the house again

They recently made a 3D printer that can process raw materials (the plants) into many types of food. As for milk... you could always buy a cow

Either way technology is advancing too fast. Yeah that's the downside... Obviously those things should be regulated. Printing guns or spreading files that allow people to create them should be a major crime. Either way, the positive sides outweigh the negatives here in my opinion. And yes, technology is advancing fast... but not fast enough in my opinion. Sure, some things technology brings are scary... but I still hope for humans to one day achieve technological immortality and the ability to leave our solar system. Both would require fast advancement... because if we don't hurry up with these things we might go extinct.

That would be nessecary in case a nuclear world war breaks out. Also do you think there is alien life?

And I think we might actually live to see the day that humans will discover that life exists one another planet (in some form, don't expect it to be intelligent life).

Immortality is useless if people just keep reproducing specifically India and China where over half the world population is The way I see it there are two ways to solve that problem: going beyond Earth and only granting those that have no children immortality. Like you'd have to choose between having children and having immortality.

Oh and if people get children anyway you can take their immortality away again... or sterilize people when you make them immortal.

Well it's not like immortality is going to make you invincible eventually they will die its a matter of when not if. I wouldn't go for it I don't think. Id rather have a family probably I don't see the point in wanting to live for a very long time

Id rather have a family probably I don't see the point in wanting to live for a very long time Well, the universe is probably not infinite and it is not know if we can leave the universe yet, currently it's assumed we can't. So no, total immortality might not be possible. But I don't see why we couldn't leave for thousands of years... the greatest problem we have are our brains, I doubt they could handle thousands of years of information, but they might be able to fix that soon with external memory drives. And immortality is what I want the most. I don't want to have "a family", so the decision would be easy for me.

Ahh i don't care for like external memory or whatever so like I'll just take cybernetic laser eyes or maybe like super ears. Like then I could hear everything and disintegrate fools like you know... No trace left like it isn't murder if there's no evidence right? That would be cool no one will stop me for being a couple dollars shy
