By Muhammad, you mean the prophet, right? Yes, his full name (according to wikipedia) was too long to fit as a poll option. So I just called him Muhammed.

So let's discuss who was the greatest strategist, tactician and overall best military leader of pre WW1 age. Augustus probably. He was a tactical genius. He seized control and formed a dictatorship without anyone even realizing it due to his planning and military strategies. He turned the Roman civil war to his advantage and he extended the Roman empire to borders that were easy to defend.

I believe Alexander was also a very good military leader having took over much of Southern Asia and Egypt. And his greatest accomplishment being his conquest over Persia. Though Alex was also very young and not many other leaders of that age could accomplish what he did. He only died at 32 years old if he lived a full life he could have conquered much more.

I should've made it clear that I loved *learning* about Churchill, not the man himself. We can't really love famous people, can we? Oh...Well I guess that adds to my epic fails

Napoleon was pretty good at expanding his empire. Not sure if he was a tactician, but if he was, he seemed to be doing well, until he-put simply by my father- took on Russia

Some others I like that aren't on the poll are: King Ramses II King Richard of England (during the crusades) Aristotle MLK Jr.
I also like some of those Greek, Medieval, and European explorers, but I'm blanking out on names right now.

What do you think was the most embarrassing military defeat in history? By that I mean a battle or war that should have been easily won by a nation but they instead got defeated really easily or a battle or war that was awfully executed and went terribly wrong.

The first one that comes to my mind is the Vietnam war. Hitler's invasion of the Soviet-Union was even more embarrassing, but the invasion itself was what made it embarrassing. Not the fact that he lost, he never stood a chance.

I had all options added but I lost internet connection when trying to post it and I was too lazy to retype it. I might add one another time... or you could add one of you want.

History is definately on of my favorite subjects. I really liked learning about the ancient civilizations/empires/kingdoms/dynasties.
Edit: Also, do you consider evolution as a history topic or more of a science topic. I guess it could go both ways.

Geography deals with the history of the planet. And Biology should deal with the history of life (so evolution). Which is the way it is at my school (I believe). And history is my favorite subject It's the only subject I enjoy (sometimes).

Added a poll. Can select up to 4 answers on what your favourite civilizations of History are. Kept a lot of the Euro nations off. And this is based before Columbus sailed to America. (So before European glory pretty much).
