It's not sexist by having more males than females in a movie. It just so happens that a movie franchise like Star Wars must have a plot that works better with more males. Thats not sexist. The story just work out that way and Episode 7 must have a story like that. Still, 3/8 or whatever the ratio is is far better than 1/6 or 2/10 from the other two trilogies (or something like that ) And besides, the character development of either gender is far more important than the number of that gender in the movie. How does Star Wars work better with more males? And just because we're getting 3/11 (it's NOT 3/8) doesn't mean people should be happy.

Especially Satine and Talzin. Characters like Maul, Savage and possibly Cad Bane appeared in fewer episodes than Satine. And they were definitely important characters. Umm Maul and Death watch where the main focus of Satine not her... She was just a filler and only had the first arc kinda around her. ...Satine was not just a filler. She provided us with a view of what the neutral systems think and served as interesting backstory to Obi-Wan.

Yeah, make ones are generally cooler, although a female one would be pretty sick if they executed it right. An apprentice role would be pretty cool for a female character I guess for a villain but the main antagonist of the sequels should be a male like the emperor or Dooku IMO. Gender-swap Dooku and I assure you that the plot will not change even a little.

We aren't saying that they aren't, I personally like girl characters because they tend to be underestimated then turn out to be super kick-butt (like Juno Eclipse for example), we are just saying that no matter what movie it is the gender ratio will not be a perfect balance.

Well, at least Star Wars always has good female characters...

While I think it's always great to have a diverse cast and strong female characters, I don't think it's really worth arguing about. I won't watch SW7 anyway but the number if females probably won't destroy it. Nam you're kinda going overboard with this equality thing.

I think this conversation is stupid. Does it really matter if a character is male or female or not in a movie? Does that change how the movie is? Gender should not be the defining factor of characters. It's a movie, sexism issues exist in more important places than this.

If there were more female characters, I still wouldn't care less. Gender ratio has extremely little to do with a movie.

Gender should not be the defining factor of characters. It's a movie, sexism issues exist in more important places than this. Sexism issues exist all over the place, and in movies it exists hugely. SW is a huge movie, therefore it shouldn't be like this. Gender should not be the defining aspect of characters, yes, but that could easily be said if this was a fine and dandy world where diversity in films was the norm. It's not, that's why it's a problem.

Yeah it doesn't really matter at all and no one really cares anyways when you actually get in the theatre and watch it..

I care more about what the plot is and if they fuck up the entire SW franchise by making changes for the sake of making changes.
Plot is what matters in a movie especially for Star Wars movies.

Here's an interesting video that hopefully Episode 7 may improve upon and perhaps Rebels too. I found it really funny at certain parts, especially near the end even if I didn't agree with all his reasons. Although, some of the reasons are actually very true, like the Death Star and Stormtroopers ones. And Namialus, there's also something in here about the female to male gender ratio, so you may want to watch that. However, it's an entertaining video to watch nonetheless.

Well I'm nearly certain the entire sequels as a whole will beat the prequels really it's only competition in the prequel trilogy is ROTS and I'm sure one of them will be on that same level if not all 3 combined will still beat it I bet.

I was thinking they would appear more as supporting characters later on in the trilogy rather then disappearing. The main reason for their return is to probably give a feel of familiarity. The reason I like them in this movie to be honest is that it completely retcons all those EU stories I never liked.

I'm still optimistic over their involvement, but I'm a little worried as to how much they will do in this film. Also, the Rebels trailer is now on Star Wars.com.
