Some movies i watched recently and the scores i would give them. No in-depth review incoming or anything. 1917 - 10/10 An absolute masterpiece and my favorite film of 2019 Parasite - 10/10 I should really watch more Korean movies. One of 2019's very best. Cats - 1/10 the bottom of the barrel for cinema. Curiosity killed the Cat for real, because a film has never broken me before. Weathering With You - 9/10 Japanse is the king of traditional animation Promare - 8.5/10 The ultimate hype film with the best visual style i have ever seen. Never before have a seen a film this colorful before. Dolittle - 4/10 Should have been animated. There is a good story in here somewhere, buried under layers of terribleness. The Gentlemen - 8/10 I never knew i needed British Gangster movies in my life. My girlfriend saw 1917 and she thought it was great. Isn't it meant to look like one continuous shot?

I would say Shazam was an okay movie. If you like Marvel movies you’ll probably like Shazam

Just saw Knives Out. So Rian Johnson is capable of writing good movies... Just not good Star Wars lol.
But this was pretty enjoyable. And whoever did the wardrobe has great taste. Also whoever picked the BMW that's like my dream car lol...

Also whoever picked the BMW that's like my dream car lol... I think he might be fine if they gave him a spin off movie like Rogue One. It was just incredibly stupid to give someone like him the middle chapter of a trilogy. Especially when he's sandwiched between two works of the most boring and uncreative filmmaker working today.

Yeah if he got a trilogy or a stand-alone movie all to himself, it would probably at least have consistency. However I just don't think he knows Star Wars. We need people who truly get the universe to make stuff that doesn't damage the lore. Rian isn't that guy. I do think TLJ damaged canon the least out of the three but it still wasn't perfect. Holdo maneuver, ruining Luke, hyperspace tracking being thought of as a new thing for example

Me and my brother have been on to watching Hitchcock films and so I finally saw Vertigo for the first time. It's not even a horror film, but it's one of the scariest, creepiest films I've ever seen. It also looks amazing. Hitchcock really lives up to the hype

Not sure if anyone else heard, but now the new Indiana Jones film's been delayed to 2023. I'm pretty certain Harrison Ford will be 80 by the time they get to promoting, so call me crazy, but I'm thinking this is his swansong

By the way, I saw the new Dune film last week. Honestly it's been a while since I saw something that I kept thinking about after the fact. I keep liking it the more I dwell on it. However it's a big shame we can't have a sequel round the corner because it's really obvious this is a book being split into parts

Watched The Batman tonight… honestly I liked it. Pretty good take on Batman focusing more on his detective and crime solving aspects. I like the time period they did. Not a complete origin story but still a fairly new Batman on year 2 of his crusade. Costume was great, soundtrack was quite fitting. Patterson honestly exceeded my expectations.
I’d be down to watch another Batman film with this cast. They teases Joker at the end which while he’s the obvious choice, I don’t think this group can really top The Dark Knight. I’d rather they focus on a different villain if there is another movie.
This Batman isn’t one I can see in a Justice League type setting though, he’s definitely a vigilante 100%. Aflecks Batman was perfect in that Team role.

Aflecks Batman was perfect in that Team role. I thought it was pretty mid tbh. First two acts I enjoyed. The world/atmosphere of Gotham looked really good, better than Nolan trilogy which is obviously just Chicago. The noir aspect was cool and I liked the characters and actors. Pattinson's Batman is cool but honestly he wasn't much of a character in this movie. And Alfred should've had a much bigger role. Third act kinda sucked though. Like after the captured Riddler, I was expecting some big twist or larger threat to be revealed. But the end is just fighting his no name goons and dealing with the flood. Like who cares? I thought that was boring and unnecessarily dragged out. Also it doesn't even make sense that Riddler suddenly wants to kill everyone in Gotham when his original motivation was to just kill the corrupt politicians or the elite or whatever. I'd probably give it a 6 or 7. Third act really brings it down but even the first two, while I enjoyed, it was overall sorta meh. I didn't feel anything while watching it but the Nolan trilogy on the other hand actually has a lot of emotional content. I rewatched BB and TDK after. Didn't see TDKR but I would not put The Batman over the first two Nolan films. It's weird how everyone is losing their shit over the movie saying it's a masterpiece and better than TDK or whatever lol. But still all that being said I wouldn't mind more. Sequel's already been confirmed I think which I think is good. I think they should get a trilogy but they should also improve from the first one. I agree I don't want Joker in the next one. Maybe Bane or someone involved with his green venom stuff. There's a theory that's connected to what Batman injected himself with towards the end

Riddler was an interesting choice for a first villain. I also agree that the ending was a little weird and if they were going for anarchy at the end then that’s basically just stealing from the Jokers playbook at that point…. Honestly I have a very mixed opinion on the Riddler cause he’s in many ways a knock off joker. I’d honestly not mind another Scarecrow movie. I actually think with Patterson Batman that would be a good choice cause this movie did seem really dark compared to the Nolan movies. Mr. Freeze could be cool as well if done right.

Did anyone else see Spiderman? Oh actually yeah I recently watched this. It was a good movie but honestly I didn’t like it as much as most people… I just don’t really care for the traditional SpiderMan villains as much as I used to when I was a kid. Seeing the old Spider-Man’s was cool though. Doctor Strange was still the highlight for me. Ever since Tony and Cap died, he’s my favourite MCU character. I actually think I’m gonna go see that movie next week

Id recommend Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. I never expected a Marvel horror film, but was honestly surprised with what we got. Elizabeth Olsen was so good in her role as Scarlett Witch and seeing the multiverse in its full extent was pretty cool. Some great cameos as well.
The movie really should have been PG14 though... maybe even an argument for an R rating. It was pretty gruesome and a lot of horror elements. Apparently a lot of the low reviews are parents bringing their children thinking its just another marvel film.

I was thinking we were going to get a giant, cataclysmic incursion for the finale, instead it wasn't quite as high stakes.

Kang is gonna be the villain in that one I think. Guardians 3 show push things along too

Couple weeks ago they added all the Fox Marvel films to Disney plus and I’ve literally binged all of them in that time after work, plus there’s a heat wave now so can’t do much else Logan is the clear cut #1, but Days of Future Past isn’t too far behind. First Class is still great, The Wolverine struggles at the end, but still holds up. X2 has aged pretty well whereas I think the original Xmen has stumbled with age, the CGI and effects is noticeably bad in that movie but the plot is still good. Both Deadpool movies just don’t hit the same anymore, don’t get me wrong on first watch they are fun movies, but the 4th wall and the humor stuff is a little cringe on rewatch. Everything C tier and below either has bad plot issues or pacing problems (both can be said for Wolverine Origins which is just honestly and awful film with the only redeeming quality being Hugh Jackman).

Well I guess the F4 movies are Fox too I guess I meant I mainly watched the Xmen family movies. Star think you watched them all, what do you think of my list? Honestly I think Logan is better then most of the MCU. Apparently there’s rumours Hugh Jackman might be coming back as Wolverine in the MCU.

I wish we got more Wolverine with the newer Xmen cast, but I can see why they didn’t go that route. Honestly the newer movies had an amazing cast of actors…Michael Fasbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Sophie Turner, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Oscar Isaac (although he was kind wasted for that role). It’s a shame the writing wasn’t a little bit better after Days of Future Past. Apocalypse should have been two movies and Isaac should have been used in a different role where he’d get to act more.

You and I think alike lol I'm actually binging these movies currently. Your list looks pretty good based off memory, but I'll see if there's anything specific I'd change after I finish going through them. So far I've completed the original trilogy. It holds up pretty well narratively, with X2 definitely being my favorite. You can see the age on all three, but it's roughest with the first film whereas the sequels are more watchable. Production value aside, it's interesting watching these after everything the MCU has given us in the superhero genre.

I honestly still trying to piece together in my head the exact timeline of stuff in this universe… the end of DOFP is supposed to be the final happy ending I believe that ended up rewriting the events of the originals a little bit, probably because the team is more experienced in the altered timeline due to Logan going back and telling Charles about the Xmen and he ends up uniting them at a younger age I think as we see in the other movies. A lot of people online tend to think Logan takes place in a different universe as well since the DOFP ending is 2023 and Logan is 2029 unless things just really went down hill but Logan looks significantly older in 2029. I think Logan would actually easily be in the top 5 if I compared them alongside MCU. It would be up there with Infinity War, Endgame, and Winter Soldier. Not sure what my other pick would be.

Finished going through all the Fox Marvel films. The best ones are definitely X2, First Class, Logan, DOFP, and The Wolverine. Of those, Logan definitely stands out as the most thematically rich and polished, but from an enjoyment perspective, I'd probably put First Class, DOFP, and X2 in front of it. Wolverine could've been the best one all around had it not fumbled the final act with a dumb mech suit fight.
I agree the Deadpool films aren't as charming on successive rewatches... but I could be a little biased since I don't think I'm as big a Deadpool fan as some others who watch the X-Men movies. The original X-Men is a solid movie, but hasn't aged the best. It's narrative is also pretty thin and not a lot really happens in its first half.
The Last Stand and Apocalypse are both frustrating, since they have interesting story ideas that aren't executed well. Last Stand has too many things going on between Magneto's Brotherhood and the Dark Phoenix plots. Also don't like how it skims over stuff with Professor X. As for Apocalypse, it feels very bland in a world where we now have Infinity War and Endgame. But that comparison aside, most of the characters aren't developed, Apocalypse himself isn't very interesting, and we once again have Magneto flipping back and forth with whether he'll help the X-Men... we've seen it enough times now, they should've done something different with him.
F4 from 2005 is campy and kind of boring, and Silver Surfer is slightly better than it. Dark Phoenix is forgettable, whereas Wolverine Origins is bad and makes the canon/timelines more confusing. Haven't seen F4 from 2015 or The New Mutants, but honestly I don't intend to watch either.

Good write up Star, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I vaguely remember watching the 2005 F4 movies when I was a kid but I have no interest in going back to them now lol I think Chris Evans being in it and not being Captain America is too much for my head lol. Never watched the 2015 F4 either, I’ll just wait for the 2024 movie, I’ve never been a huge F4 fan though. Only seen them in a few comics thst crossover with the other guys really.

I don't know if I will watch it I just can't imagine I will like it lol. Apparently it was crazy expensive to make, like to an irresponsible degree which basically guaranteed it to flop.
I watched the original 3 a while ago. I don't know if I ever properly watched them, I think I only saw parts when they were on tv when I was a kid. Raiders and Last Crusade are awesome but I don't really like Temple of Doom. I still need to watch Crystal Skull at some point. I know that one gets a lot of hate though
