They should really go deeper with the characters, especially Obi-Wan. There was no character development this episode when it was a perfect opportunity. He should be at his lowest point right now, coming off the encounter with Vader. But it feels kinda glossed over. He doesn't have any strong reactions to anything, even when he hears Mustafar mentioned. Would've been a good time when he was in the bacta tank to either have Qui-Gon finally reach out to help him regain his strength and confidence. Or even use some clone wars flashbacks to show his relationship with Anakin. They could do more with Reva too if they're insisting on making her such a key character. How is she so omniscient? Like she literally knows everything all the time and everything works out for her. Even Vader bends to her will. I know I've been pretty harsh on this show, I'm thinking of something positive to say but it's kinda hard... lol. I mean there's several cool moments for sure that I've enjoyed. And I actually really like kid Leia when they don't write her like an adult. But yeah for the most part the show doesn't make me feel anything. I wouldn't say it's exactly boring but it's certainly not very engaging or exciting. And there's nothing new either. It's a shame I think they could've done a lot more with it. Maybe it should've just been a movie and they could've cut out all the unnecessary fat Apparently this is a film script retrofitted into being a mini series and honestly it does show. Why they didn't trim the fat, make it a film and let the cash waltz in I will never know

Oh yeah, we also saw the Purge Troopers for the first time this episode. Hopefully we get to see them some more. Another cool moment was the tomb of fallen Jedi that Obi-Wan stumbled across. I liked the nod toward Leia's strong Force connection too when she resisted Reva's mind interrogation. Honestly this episode just makes me want to revisit Fallen Order. Fifth Brother should be given a little more to do though... I feel like 90% of his character has been complaining about Reva without anything resulting from that. Apparently Terra Sinube, the old alien from TCW episode where Ahsoka's lightsaber is stolen, was in one of the tombs. I didn't notice, I'll have to watch it again to find him. Im guessing this might be where they got Luminara's corpse from to use in that one Rebels episode. I think the design of the tombs was similar to her's from Rebels. Yeah there were actually several Easter eggs in this episode. The seeker droids are like the one Iden Versio from the BF2 campaign had on her back. They might've been a little oversized here though. He was the very first one, I actually recognized him right away. Would have been a big cooler to see some more recognizable Jedi though. I wonder if only the post Order 66 bodies are in there. Would make sense as those would be the ones the inquisitors would be responsible for killing.

Kenbo does this take place before or after Fallen Order? Trilla is dead at this point right? I think Fallen Order is 7 or 8 years after ROTS but I might be confusing it with Solo. I think FO and Solo are both 5 years after ROTS. OWK is 10 years after. Fallen Order sequel will be in the same timeline as OWK Yeah I kinda thought it was before this. But still we’ve only seen Third Sister, Fifth Brother and I think the alien is Fourth Sister? Second sister is dead for sure, a couple more died in the Vader comics. But Ninth Sister, Seventh Sister, Tenth Brother should all be alive as they are in Rebels (Ninth Sister is FO). I’m gonna guess Grand Inquisitor comes back in the last episode, I just can’t see them over writing Rebels that much tbh… if they do then I 100% expect Maul in season 2. Although I actually really like Mauls final death, it’s grown on me over time. The quick fight where Maul is so caught up in his rage and Kenobi just tactically defeats him. It was kinda nice.

I’m trying to decide where to rank this in comparison to the other shows. I think we can all agree Mando season 2 is probably the best so far. But not sure if Kenobi is better then Boba. I mean probably? Mando kinda saved that show though at the same time which I’m not certain if it’s fair to consider that. I guess Obi-Wan is probably better than Boba Fett if you don’t count Mando coming in for two episodes…
The budget in Kenobi is higher then Boba though. Actually Boba has Fennec who really grew on me… idk it’s gonna be close, depends if we get a satisfying conclusion here.
I think Andor low key could be the best show after both it’s seasons air.

33 minute episodes of whatever it was is kinda unacceptable for a 6 episode season though…

Also like you said, it's a little weird to compare Boba when Mando took over the show near the end. I agree the budget seems big for Kenobi, but episode 4 kind of felt cheaper... The 'snow' speeders didn't look all that great in some of the shots both visually and how they moved. There were also a couple other moments throughout that sort of exposed that this is still a TV show and not a movie. Doesn't ruin the episode, but it stuck out to me.

Maybe it should've just been a movie and they could've cut out all the unnecessary fat Yeah that was my biggest issue with the episode. It chose to be plot-centric despite us knowing the fates of most of the characters. I know that's kind of an inherent flaw with prequels, but the perfect way to handle that is with emotional development that adds wrinkles to the pasts of established characters. I didn't need them to limit character development so they could focus entirely on a jailbreak story. I would've preferred them to give us more about how Kenobi feels following last episode's encounter with Vader. The quick scene in the bacta tank didn't really accomplish this, flashbacks like you mentioned and/or more dialogue addressing it while he's rescuing Leia would've been great. I've been saying the same with Reva. I'm trying to understand her character more but the writers aren't giving a lot to work with here. Maybe we'll get something these last two episodes, but honestly this would've been a good spot in the show to have these moments.

Well I’ve noticed that in Mando before too, they are using practical effects for many vehicles. It’s pretty obvious if you look during the X-Wing scenes when they fly next to Mandos ship, they kinda move pretty weird. Not a huge negative but a lot of the budget does get used on the planets.

Ok I’ve gave it some thought and… you could replace most of Revas scenes with Vader instead and the show would be better off. This character is a watered down version of Maul imo. I hate that the actress is getting so much flak for this though because it’s not her fault, but the character itself just isn’t good. I don’t want Deborah Chow in this universe anymore tbh, hasn’t she written and directed every episode? This is part of the reason the prequels weren’t as good as they could have been in some respects because George didn’t have more outside input.
I’m sad Ewan came back for this story but at least it sounds like he had fun doing it with some of his old friends.

She might have had some creative input but the main writer is some rando named Joby Harold who apparently doesn’t have a great portfolio. KK brought him in to overhaul the original scripts that were written by someone else because they were too dark. Garbage writer honestly. No idea how someone like this can make it in Hollywood. I could write a script better than any of his OWK episodes. And Chow doesn’t seem like a very good director either. Maybe she can handle certain kinds of projects but not Star Wars. The action sucks and what’s up with all the shaky cam shots? Everything is amateur hour in this show, even the editing and fx and stuff. The lightsaber glows are way too over saturated. Speaking of sabers, in this last episode when Obi kills the stormtrooper in the dark room, his saber literally bounces off him instead of cutting through lol. Really bad choreography everywhere. Tala slaps a stormtrooper’s helmet and he fucking passes away Why does Disney keep hiring these people?

I can’t believe she’s still in charge. I still don’t think the directing is good in the show though but Chow actually has a decent resume having worked on Mando, Better Call Saul and a few other popular shows I believe so I’m a little surprised this is the result… I think the entire dark room scene is some kind of Easter egg, but it’s out of place and doesn’t work. The stupid line the trooper says about “There’s no escape from here” is a reference to one of the early 2000s Jedi Knight series i think. And I think they gave the lightsabers the Fallen Order treatment with no dismemberment…. Tbf in the prequels it’s really only droids that get cut up other then the main villains.

Holy this episode was actually pretty damn good. I love that we finally got to see Hayden and while at first he’s noticeably older it kind of went unnoticed after the second flashback scene for me. Ewan looks like he could literally play episode 2 Kenobi again perfectly, I didn’t really notice the age on him much. For much of that scene I thought it was right after AOTC, but it’s before as Anakin doesn’t have the robot hand I don’t think. Anakin seemed so strong so I really thought it was right before he becomes a Knight (there’s like a 3-4 month gap or something that we don’t know much about between AOTC and the start of clone wars).
They did Vader so well though, him taking down that ship and then beating Revas ass without even igniting his saber. I wish he just killed her though but I guess Vader probably has a thing for leaving people near death due to his own experience. Maybe he just doesn’t care if they live, he will just beat them again…
Grand Inquisitor back is nice, we knew it had to come but it’s mostly reaffirmation that they won’t ignore established lore to that degree.

I don’t think this will wrap up super well though, I heard they cut scenes out of the finale to make a season 2… I would honestly love Maul and if your gonna do fan service he’s the character to do it with but I really can’t see that one working with the established lore.
Is Reva gonna go to Tatooine? Is she gonna be dumb and think going after Vaders kids will hurt Vader? Maybe Kenobi kills Reva in the next episode and probably doesn’t fight Vader?

The flashbacks were awesome. I wish they were longer though. Remember the Cobb Vanth backstory from The Marshal episode? Now that was a juicy and satisfying flashback.
The writing is still really sloppy and lazy though... Haja dropping the communicator was pretty contrived and Bail is so stupid for carelessly saying all these names and locations in his message. Tala and NED-B's deaths was another Wade moment. They didn't flesh out those characters enough for people to care.
Obviously they tried though with Tala's little monologue. It's so lazy to have characters just walk up to Obi-Wan and randomly start a monologue about their story. It doesn't really work. But they really needed something more in the character department. The plot is nothing special so it needs to be elevated by strong characters with compelling development. None of the characters in the show are interesting.
Vader and GI letting Reva live was kinda dumb. GI literally survived the same wound already. Reva has so much plot armor man and she always knows literally everything. I wish Vader killed her.
Oh and the ship fake out was dumb. Where'd the second ship come from? How'd they even think to plan a decoy? If they had two ships, why not let Obi take one to Alderaan?
There were some decent moments in this one for sure and I think the fight choreography improved as well. But still finding a lot to criticize... I guess I'm just over it at this point. There's television out there that is so good. I wish Star Wars could reach that quality. Doesn't this show have 10 mil more per episode than Mando did at least for season 1? Where is it going??

Kinda feels like evil Rey basically I think there will be a Palpatine scene at the beginning of the next episode. Maybe trying to give Vader another assignment and telling him to stop wasting time with Kenobi. There's gotta be a Qui-Gon moment too. If there isn't that will be really weird. Otherwise what was with that stuff at the beginning? It'd be a setup with no pay off

You know what I change my mind. I'll admit I went in ready to be disappointed which probably made me focus on the negatives. But I watched it again and liked it more. For what it is I think it's fine and fun if you don't think about it too much... There was enough cool stuff for me to enjoy it and a lot of the issues are minor and can be considered nitpicks.
I'll give it a 7.5 or 8 just for enjoyment. So like I don't think it's a good piece of film but for the rest of the show standards it was pretty good... lol. But it's really the flashbacks that carried it for me and it probably wouldn't be that high without them. Seeing Anakin again was so good, I was smiling every time he was on screen. Hayden even did that one spin move he did in the Mustafar duel and I love that move so much.

Okay, that flashback duel was worth the episode alone. Only watching it did I realise how much I missed Hayden's smile. Also, I can never get enough of his spin happy lightsaber style. It's just so satisfying. I did like how Vader was really just playing Reva and making her out to be the chump instead. I do like how this show really has shown that monstrous, calculating side so well. Kinda curious what's up with the ending of her finding out about Luke. Is she going after him? Just seems weird.
I do agree with Obi though, this show keeps giving us somewhat half baked characters that don't do enough to get us invested in them. Still the positives outweigh everything else though. However, that flashback basically confirms it for me: we need a second series based during the outer rim sieges. Live action Clone Wars would simply make the fanbase go bananas.

Yeah honestly an Outer Rim sieges mini series is what I want to see. Sounds like Samuel would come back, I saw an interview today about how he turns down some roles cause he loves playing Nick Fury. I’d imagine he’d come back for Star Wars. Biggest issue would probably be Dooku, would likely have to recast him for sure or give him a super limited role and in a clone wars show that might be hard.

It would make more sense for Anakins character for him to be more aggressive after his Tusken Raider slaughter and his loss to Dooku. Not a big deal really but, it’s just how I would have wrote it. Although I guess you could say his short comings in the duel is why he loses so bad to Dooku in AOTC… Anyways as for rankings I would say: Part 1: 7/10 Part 2: 6/10 Part 3: 7/10 Part 4: 4/10 Part 5: 8/10 Part 1 was originally an 8 but was being carried by nostalgia. Part 4 is really a low point and didn’t advance the plot other then the little tracker… also why can’t we get real titles like Mando?? But it’s obvious this was just a movie that was fleshed out with some filler.

Comparison to other shows…
Mando Season 1: 8/10 Mando Season 2: 9/10 BoBF: 6/10 or 7.5/10 (I have two rankings for this… one is factoring in the Mando centric episodes and the other is not) Kenobi: probably 6/10 tbh but at this point it’s ceiling is likely below an 8….

Enjoying this about the same as BoBF, can appreciate the Star Wars elements and world building, but the writing is very meh and it’s not doing the greatest service to some of our favorites aka Boba and Kenobi.
Probably why Mando is so good is they made an original character with no expectation although it’s heavily inspired from other characters.

I might say BOBF (even excluding the Mando episodes which tbh don't even hit for me that much except for half of the first one), is "better" than Kenobi. Seems like they actually had a fresh story, drawing inspiration from gangster films and stuff. It was an admirable idea with a terrible execution. Everything feels forced or ripped off in Kenobi and there's no organic storytelling. BOBF also didn't impact canon as much.
The areas where OWK beats BOBF for me is Kenobi feels more like himself here while they did not get Boba right. Also the change of scenery in OWK is nice as constant Tatooine got tiring. Ironically I think OWK should've been entirely on Tatooine but oh well. BOBF also had better music. And the non Rodriguez directed episodes also had better direction than any from OWK. But still shit writing in both, they can't even follow their own logic most of the time. Very bad television, would get shit on by everyone if not for the brand and big name characters. Compare these to The Boys and Stranger Things. It's a joke.
I guess the my take away here though is Favreau on his worst day is still better than Joby Harold on what's probably his best. Really hoping season 2 gets canned. There is literally no story, especially not a not canon breaking one. They just greenlit it because the numbers were good. Such a dumbass knee jerk reactionary move. It's all about money for them nothing else.

Stranger Things has gone down hill a little bit imo but I haven’t watched any of the new stuff. Better Call Saul however is way better… the new season is spectacular. Andrew Stanton wrote episode 5 of Kenobi though and the improvement definitely showed. He’s doing episode 6 as well. And I think Kenobi feels better compared to Boba because it’s Ewan who’s definitely a better actor then Temeura.

Now if you took Rebels out of the picture and made this show first I’d do a really weird twist personally where Reva is actually an apprentice to Maul and then set up some epic Old Wounds storyline on Tatooine in season 2 before going back to conclude the show with Vader in season 3. Idk that just sounds like it would be fun to me, wouldn’t work now though.

Yeah that was a much better episode than last week, although they really crammed a lot in under 40 minutes. We finally got the flashbacks with Anakin/Obi-Wan, plus Reva's past during Order 66. Hayden looked a tad old for AOTC Anakin, but you definitely get used to it after the first scene. I guess this training duel occurred right before the events of AOTC?
They did Vader so well in this episode, especially with how it kind of paralleled the theme of the flashbacks. Loved that he took down Reva with barely any effort and that he knew of her deception all along. I'm just a little confused on what Reva's overall plan was and why Vader would let her stay around all this time. Like did he think she'd be useful in tracking down Kenobi, because I don't really see why else he'd keep her alive. Also I don't mind Reva's twist of being against Vader, it actually makes sense. My only issue is that it felt a little rushed when she semi-reveals it to Kenobi. Hopefully they'll touch on it some more next episode.
Good to see the Grand Inquisitor back. Was kind of hoping he'd finish off Reva, but clearly the writers have something else planned for her still. I agree that it seems like Kenobi may end up killing her to protect Luke.

I think someone mentioned this before, but the shaky camera movement really irritates me. I don't mind a few shots like that, but they're overdoing it. Even shots that aren't action and should be static still have a slight shake. Maybe it'll grow on me during a rewatch, but it makes it hard to follow the action sequences.

Uhh… so did I like it from a fan perspective? Yeah, I guess? From a story perspective? Probably not…
So much doesn’t make sense… how is Reva on Tatooine so quickly and why is she not critically injured? At the start I thought maybe the two subplots took place at slightly different times which would make more sense, but that goes out the window when Kenobi senses Luke is in danger and somehow ends up on Tatooine super fast. Although however, I can kinda excuse Kenobi appearing so fast because at least in the old EU Mustafar is actually relatively close to Tatooine and the inquisitor planet/ Jabiim might be in between the two. Still doesn’t excuse Reva though.
So the fight. I mean it was ok, I can understand Kenobi beating Vader in melee combat, Vaders strength comes from his overwhelming mastery of the force and it clearly shows that Vader is much stronger in that respect. Kinda figured Kenobi wouldn’t want to kill Anakin though.
The whole Tatooine plot is so stupid though, it did nothing for the show and only served to tie up Revas character who should be dead. I did like Owen and Beru, they were both excellent.

Will there actually be a season 2?!?! It kinda seemed like Kenobi was prepared to leave the planet but I think he was just moving to the Dune Sea. The one thing I will say is they wrapped it up well enough that you can end it here and arrive at episode 4 and not have too many issues tbh. Luke knew of Ben Kenobis existence in ANH so that makes sense. Vader has no idea where Kenobi is and could just end up sending the next ten years searching again. Leia’s story doesn’t need to be continued, she appears in Rebels in like 5 years anyways.
Why is Qui-Gon a ghost now though? I guess he finished his training at some point after his death maybe?? There will probably be a reason for it, honestly that’s fine with me. I always thought it was weird that he was just a voice…
