It is a bit strange that Ciri is supposed to be 12 though...

Most people seem to find the timelines confusing though... That was not really an issue for me. Seemed fairly simple. But there is so much they don't explain about magic, politics and geography... It makes it a bit hard to understand certain things.

I just finished the season (got delayed a bit by a two day trip with my girlfriend and Christmas). I definitely like this show... It is not like early GOT. But still possibly the best show that seems to be airing at the moment. It does get a bit confusing at times though. Not everything is properly explained. I feel like unlike GOT this show fails to properly explain the world it takes place in to the audience that is unfamiliar with the source materials (and the games in this case). I never had trouble understanding the magic or politics in GOT, while there is plenty I do not understand in the Witcher. Nevertheless it is a fun show. I am looking forward to season 2. And I might just play the third game at some point. I could try and answer any questions on lore or locations if you have any. Witcher 3 is a masterpiece though, definitely play it. I’d recommend playing on the higher diffficulties for an authentic Witcher experience where you actually have to research monsters in the codex to find their weaknesses, and rely on potions and oils for effective strategy

It makes it a bit hard to understand certain things. Essentially the biggest thing is that there is many different worlds in the Witcher universe. We really only care about the main one though. But at one point there was an event call the “Conjunction of the Spheres” which opened gateways between the worlds and that marked the arrival of humans and monsters into the world we see in the show. Originally this planet was only inhabited by Elves and maybe Dwarves/ halflings (not sure on that), when the humans arrived they learned magic and used it against the elves. Witcher’s where created by human kingdoms to fend off monsters.

There are elves on other planets as well... a certain relevant faction will be introduced from a different planet at some point if the story goes on long enough. Magic is the gateway between worlds.
In a sense the universe is very much like RS, The world we see is a conduit for magic, similar to Gielinor. And the main world is know simply as “The Continent”.... needless to say I don’t like using that term much

Read a few reviews for it and they seemed to say the stuff without Geralt was weak. Honestly that was the stronger story of the episode.

Liked Episode 2 as well. Not to knock Mandalorian but clearly this has way more thought behind it. And yeah I’ll take this over Grand Theft Sandcrawler.

I felt like in the first episode Ciri's story was the most interesting, then it shifts towards Geralt's being better in the rest of the season. Yennifer's story is the average one all thoughout the season.

I think they based this season off short stories mainly from The Last Wish (first chronological book).
In the first book ever released (Blood of Elves) Ciri and Yennifer aren’t even in it. Just Geralt.

Best characters were Geralt, Dandelion, Tassaia, Ciri.
Yennifer should get better. I liked some of the one episode characters as well like Villentrelltemeth.

Probably one of the most detailed maps of the continent. This season mainly took place in the southern North Kingdoms near Cintra. Witcher 3 takes place in Temeria and in Skellege and the expansion takes place in Touissant. I think next season we will see Kaer Morhan where Geralt trained, way in the far right,

But CD Projeckt Red did an Xbox One X and PS4 PRO update to graphics last year if you have either of those yours will look good, they also slightly improved non X and Pro graphics as well,

But some parts of the dialogue and events are a bit confusing as they are going on because the show does not really explain everything too well. I like it when shows don't spell everything out for the audience, but the Witcher may go a bit too far at some points in that regard. I still consider buying Witcher 3, but my PC is not doing too well... In fact I think it is at the end of its lifespan. A few weeks ago it was doing fine with heavy games, then suddenly it couldn't even run RuneScape without severe fps drops anymore. So I doubt it would run the Witcher in its current state. Maybe once I upgrade to Windows 10 these issues will resolve... I could also buy the game for the PS4, but it is much more expensive.

Did you read the books or summaries of them? Or is this all in the games?

But the games take place like 5 years after the books end and the games are basically considered to be one version of how the story ends. There hasn’t been a new book in 6 years though and most fans just consider the games to be the actual continuation. Obviously though the games take all the backstory from the books.

Definitely didn’t expect there to be multiple timelines on the show. Are Ciri and Yennifer in the books but not in the games then? I’m not sure how they would fit into it if they’re never gonna meet Geralt.
(I’ve seen the first three episodes for reference)

First 3 are easy enough to recognize... the bottom right you probably would never be able to tell due to the casting in the show....

I’m a bit hazy on how this franchise works but I’m trying to avoid spoilers. Essentially the show is a pretty faithful adaptation to the first chronological book (The Last Wish). The last wish is also a collection os short stories. I think the show is trying to stay to the books for the time being. It probably won’t be late into its life span that they would start taking from the games or even go their own way for an ending, although the season definitely had some callbacks and Easter eggs to the games. The games take place after the books with a fully grown up Ciri. They are best described as “One possible ending to Geralts story”. Think of it like Batman... his origins never change and Bruce will always train to be the Bat with a specific code of honor, but he has tons of different stories and how they play out.
