One thing that seems odd is that compared to GoT the world seems very clean and at times quite sterile.. but I suppose this is also more of a higher fantasy whereas GoT comes off as Medieval with fantasy elements. I think I’m most interested in monsters and Geralts hunting, loved that stuff in Witcher 3.

Also I wasn’t sold on the casting before but I’m more convinced after these. Obviously Henry was gonna be great but the others were just no names.

It’s Netflix though, wondering how far the budget really stretches...

I’m really excited for this. The posters and descriptions I’ve seen all sound really good, so I hope it lives up to the hype.

Hmm, my mother won tickets for the official Witcher Premiere in the Benelux on Thursday, so me and my sister could go see it. Seems pretty cool, apparently some of the cast is present too. But the tine and location won't be announced until tomorrow, and I have an exam on the same day, so I might be unlucky...

Henry Cavill is the only big name Hollywood actor. Makes sense. Fantasy actors are usually European because Americans don't have fantasy-accents. Still, I don't see why they would come to the Benelux premiere. Might be more important premieres in Europe... then again the Netherlands seem very popular with foreign entertainment companies these days. Anyway, it is apparently in Amsterdam, about 30 minutes by bus from where I will be taking my exam. Still don't know the time though, but if it is in the evening (which seems most logical) I will probably be able to attend. I am not that hyped for this series, but it definitely had my interest... so it could be fun watching it at the official premiere. Especially if this series is going to be the new big thing.

So I went to the premiere...
This series definitely seems like it could be good.
The first episode was a great start. The Geralt plot was kind of confusing and felt like Geralt was just kind of messing around for most of it. But the other storyline was really good, and actually seemed more important. Unfortunately they did a really short Q&A with the two main actresses before the actual screening and one of them spoiled the ending... but that's no big deal...
The show looks good and seems to have a good story set-up, with some early mysteries. It seems like a weird mix between GOT (early GOT that is) and Lord of the Rings. The story is centered around a smaller cast of characters and the magic is much more present than in GOT. There are wizards and monsters out in the open. And people talk about strange places and prophecies. But it does have the brutal, dark and crude vibe of Game of Thrones. I don't see this show killing of one of the main characters very soon, but they do not shy away from the dark sides of fantasy.
In the end the first episode pleasently surprised me. I think the runtime was like an hour so I got a decent taste of the show I think. I am definitely excited to watch the rest. This might be the next big fantasy series... though it is a pity they seem to be going for 8 episodes every 2 years. Might kind of hurt the hype... but quality over quantity I guess...
Definitely check this out tomorrow.

One thing I don't understand is why they translated the horse's name to Plötze in the Dutch subtitles... Doesn't even sound more Dutch than Roach... There is no ö in Dutch.

I forgot this was coming out. I've never played the games or read the books so i'm curious what all the fuss is about. Its fantasy setting will surely give me a good time.

Also since it’s Netflix I’m not sure they are doing weekly releases? Usually Netflix shows drop all at once

Yeah Netflix dropped the whole season at once, might have preferred weekly releases. I’m not gonna start right now cause I probably won’t stop...
But every episode is an hour + except one episode that’s a 47 minute anomaly.

But if you guys like this show you gotta play Witcher 3... Witcher 1 and 2 are pretty clunky but Witcher 3 is a masterpiece. Cavill basically got the part of Geralt cause of how much of a fan he was of the games.
When he got the call for Superman role back in the day he almost missed the call cause he was playing world of Warcraft... dude is a super gamer/ nerd.

I prefer the weekly speculation and mystery... and just generally dragging it out a bit. Now we can all watch this show in like a week, and then we have to wait for 2 years for the next episode apparently...

Episode 1 was actually really good and is very accurate to the lore. The fall of Cintra and the Butcher of Blavikan plot lines are definitely the best starting points all things considered.
I was amazed at how well the visuals were and the fact that we saw a battle in episode 1. That’s an incredible start, I think the worries I had of budgeting have been washed away. Netflix shows usually have a low- medium budget but they must be going all out for the Witcher reputation. Especially since there isn’t really a fantasy show at the moment to fill the void left by GoT, at least not until Amazons Lord of the Rings show releases.
But the biggest highlight has got to be the fight choreography, I think this is some of the best sword fighting ever seen in live action, really shows how much of a master swordsman Geralt is. I definitely enjoyed that aspect more than the fighting seen in GoT and Lord of the Rings even.
Some little things but I like how they are establishing stuff early, The Wild Hunt especially. That was a nice mention from the Queen, although I doubt we’re gonna see The Wild Hunt for a very long time unless they do the Assassins of Kings plot line in season 2. But the real Wild Hunt stuff probably won’t be until season 3 or 4 if this show lasts that long. Ciri needs time to grow up and train before that happens.

Btw Cavill is great as Geralt and Freya Allan was a good Ciri.
But yeah I think this is probably a 4-5 season show at best. Tbf the Witcher lore doesn’t really go past Wild Hunt (Witcher 3) and that stuff wasn’t even in the books but I can’t see them not adapting it as the final season or something for this show since that’s where the franchises popularity really picked up.

Huh apparently the show is already planned for seven seasons... I still doubt it will go that long. But my guess is they will adapt the books for like 3 seasons and then use stuff from the games for the last 2 and end at 5. Or if it goes to seven... books for 4-5, games for 2.

Although I was under the impression the Butcher of Blavikan stuff in the lore took place long before the fall of cintra... I’m not sure if they ever specified of those two plot lines took place at the same time in this show. Geralt doesn’t really age though.

The third main storyline takes place several decades before the Cintra one as well. So Geralt's may too.

Sorceress and Witcher’s have like 200 year life spans. Geralt in Witcher 3 was in his mid 70s, he should be late 60s in whatever the present timeline is for this show.

Episode 2 was a lot of setup. But I’m really not certain if the Geralt stuff is in the past yet, he just met Dandelion (nickname for his absurdly long real name) and in most of the books he knows him for years.
Yennifer stuff is definitely in the past.

Watched the first episode. This shit is good. A little cheesy at times but still good lol. I enjoyed the Cintra B plot a lot felt very Game of Thronesy. I guess we haven't really been introduced to many recurring characters yet but I like Ciri. Geralt is cool but a bit uninteresting but I'm sure he'll get more character development. I had a feeling the wizard dude, Stromberg or whatever, was played by Lars Mikkelsen and I was right. He voiced Thrawn in rebels

Witcher’s don’t have emotions, they think with only logic and sometimes try to act with the emotion they think is suitable for the occasion.
