So Henry Cavill is leaving Witcher after season 3 and will be recast with Liam Hemsworth lol. No way they can get away with recasting the main character, show will definitely fall off after that. Apparently one of the former writers on the show said how a bunch of people working on the show didn't like or respect the source material. I think Henry disagreed with their decisions a lot too since he is a fan himself which might be why he decided to leave. Also that writer is now doing an X men show where he says he will only bring on people that are actually fans and will respect the lore. If only Star Wars could get these kinds of people... Seriously it feels like for all major franchises now, the people working on them actively hate the IP and their fans. It's bizarre. But as for Witcher, honestly I might not even watch after Henry's gone. Man Witcher for me was sorta one of the few reasons to keep Netflix lol I couldn't believe it's real. Liam can probably look the part, but I'm not sure his acting can match what we got with Cavill. In so many ways, Cavill was Geralt. Hopefully the show retains its high quality, but it's going to be so jarring switching lead actors. I wish Cavill could've stayed on and completed Geralt's intended arc, then have Liam come in as a different Witcher to start a new story. But I guess that isn't realistic since they've mentioned how there's like 7+ seasons potentially planned. Still shocked Cavill would leave an IP he cares so much about... I guess his return as Superman and perhaps behind the scenes disagreements caused it. Wow they want 7 seasons? From Netflix’s track record I think it will for sure be canned after season 4 lol. It will definitely be a very jarring change as you said

Caught up on House of the Dragons and it's pretty cool. At first the time jumps were weird but I guess it's fine and kinda needed for the story they wanted to tell.
I binged GOT so I don't remember individual seasons of it distinctly but I feel like it's first season was more exciting than this. HOTD kinda feels like GOT lite. Definitely less epic, fewer plot lines and characters being followed and it seems much smaller scale with lower stakes. Doesn't make it bad just different I guess. I liked the drama in GOT more because it was more diversified. There were more plot points about revenge or justice, more catharsis moments when the evil characters were taken down.
HOTD is mostly just about marriage and claims to the throne. And none of the characters feel truly evil in the vein of Ramsey, Joffrey, etc. But my interest in this world is definitely revived and I'm looking forward to more. Almost want to rewatch early GOT but don't really have the time for that lol.

And a lot of the other characters are going to do evil things next season for sure. But I think in some ways it was better than GOT, like the characters are more fleshed out this early on already. In other ways GOT was better since the plot just felt more interesting.

I sort of stand by my opinion that you could start the show mid season with the older actors and you could probably understand the plot fine without a lot of the previous stuff… like what real point does the Feast and the Hunt for the White Stag really serve in the grand scheme of things with all these jumps?

I think I preferred the cast and status quo in the first half. It was fun to kinda marinate in that world before the main story began. I don't remember the season super well now so it could be that you could just pick up from the second half timeline but I guess first half is relevant for establishing context and motivations. I'm just glad Matt Smith wasn't recasted for his older version. His character might be my favorite

His character might be my favorite Matt Smith is 100% the best actor in the show, but tbh he’s also the only actor with some major pedigree compared to everyone else. Damon is by far my favorite though, I also really like Aemond though, I think he’s meant to be the Jaime of the show. I mean in reality I think the memes are true it’s The Blacks vs Aemond (90% of the Greens Power) and Otto (10%). There’s a lot more competent characters on the Blacks imo, although also more likely to get back stabbed i think.

Anyone here watching The Last of Us? Honestly it’s really good and a very faithful adaptation of the first game. Pedro Pascal was also a wonderful casting choice for Joel.

I never played the game but decided to give the show a shot because of Pedro Pascal. I was a little unsure if I'd like it since I'm not the biggest fan of post-apocalyptic/"zombie" stories, but TLOU has been outstanding. The first half of the premiere was very intense and got me hooked instantly. And each episode since has kept my interest, even ones that I heard deviate from the game like the third episode. It's kind of crazy what tv roles Pedro Pascal has landed with GoT, Narcos, Mando, and now TLOU.

I might check it out once all the episodes are out. I never played the game and don’t know anything about it except it’s something post apocalyptic? Which isn’t super interesting to me tbh but maybe I’ll like the show

It’s a good adaption of the game, the opening sequence has a lot of dialogue that’s copy and paste from the game. It’s not a traditional zombie show per say as it’s more of a fungal virus that corrupts the mind and infects people. Honestly I guess it’s a little more grounded in thst sense since a fungal virus is actually something that’s a possibility although not to this extreme.

I figured it would be good cause of Pascal, although I’m really worried for season 2 if they go right to the second game. Spoiler for the game here Joel dies in the first 2 hours and you play as Elle . Although they might not go to the second game right away as there’s a 5-10 year gap between games. Season 1 is definitely on pace to be the entire first game and first game only. The third episode is a good deviation imo, had really strong acting. In the game Joel and Elle kind of just show up and Bill helps them out as a favor. Yeah Pascal is gonna have one hell of a year between Last of Us and Mando season 3.

Newan I'm going to protect myself from the spoiler you tagged lol, been trying my best to stay unaware of anything about this franchise to make each episode more exciting for me. Yeah both Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett were fantastic. I pretty much only know them from Parks & Rec and White Lotus respectively, but they nailed their roles here. Really didn't expect either of them to die there, let alone both of them. I thought for sure they'd stick around longer But honestly every character is written and played so well in this show, even people we just met in episode 5 like Henry and his brother. And once again I was stunned they both didn't make it beyond this episode.

I heard about it, but based on events in the second game I'm a little hesitant. I can appreciate the realism and I enjoyed the first game.

I’d say the Last of Us wrapped up pretty good… anyone finish the season? I finished it. Finale wasn't my favorite episode, but I liked the moral dilemma it presented. The season as a whole was very good though, it makes me want to see them adapt other video game franchises. Season 2 is supposed to dive into Part II, but the creators are saying it will take multiple seasons to cover all the events of that game.

Yeah honestly I’m both excited and worried… I know how the second game goes and there’s some controversy that surrounded it. I’m curious if they rewrite parts but at the same time that basically admits defeat to all the critics. So we shall see. The snow really needed 12 episodes in season 1 though, lots of the game was sped up or glossed over

I binged TLOU and knowing nothing about the game, I thought it was pretty good overall. Only episode I thought was kinda boring was the mall episode but I enjoyed all the others.
This might be one of the better zombie apocalypse stories for me. Usually I get disappointed by their worldbuilding or don't find them to be realistic but I think the lore here is solid. The fungus was an interesting concept and I also like FEDRA. In Walking Dead for example, they pretty much have all US infrastructure collapse immediately. Seems more realistic to have a paramilitary force maintaining order.
The morally gray stuff was interesting. At the start I was rooting for Joel as the good guy but his actions are definitely more gray. Guess that's the main theme and it all depends on perspective. Everyone sees themselves as the good guy.
Really liked the side characters like Tess, Frank and Bill, Henry, and even David who was creepy was written very well. They were good at getting you attached to characters before killing them lol

But if you do ever get the chance I’d recommend playing the game, I replayed it while the show was ongoing to really see the differences, lot of the dialogue is word for word from the game. It’s pretty cool.

I just really like Doctor Strange and Cumberbatch though. I did enjoy the horror elements, idk I just think it was a unique take on Marvel. Still need to watch GotG3.
