I'll marathon Rings of Power when the season is over. Just watched the third one and I'm really happy with the series so far. Online reviews are too harsh on it, I honestly don't have any major complaints. It's doing a great job establishing its characters, conflicts, and the world of the Second Age. Everything we see feels meaningful and most of the characters are interesting/have potential. There's a good mix of practical and special effects to make the world really come to life. Of course, don't go in expecting it to be another GoT/House of the Dragon. It's quite different but in a good way. Both series have distinct feels, but they're equally entertaining in my opinion.

House of the Dragon episode 1 was pretty good, but if you knew even the most basic thing about the show being that it centers around the Targeryen Civil War its sort of a predictable opener. The acting was good though, although I can't help but think that the lead girl is a Daenerys copy and paste... I will likely watch episodes 2 and 3 tonight so I am caught up for episode 4 tomorrow. First 3 episodes are all good. There's a few odd narrative jumps, but overall it's done a good job of building a foundation for the story and lead characters. I think episode 4 might be where some bigger things are set in motion. Some of my coworkers have given mixed reviews so far… too much talking is what they been saying. I’m not really against that but I could see how the show might be slowly paced. So was GoT season 1 for the most part.

I get the feeling it might not get a second season…. 750 billion for one season of a show is absolutely insane. Solo cost 400-500 million I believe and that was considered a failure as it only made around 700 million in the box office I think? I don’t think there was a huge demand for LoTR either, like yeah the movies were fantastic and the Hobbit was good. But nobody was expecting or asking for a show I don’t think.

Witcher Season 3 has wrapped filming, should release next year. I’m expecting December like the previous season, but I’d imagine they could get it out by summer if they wanted…

I mean I guess I wouldn’t because I’m more casual with the franchise. I hear it’s not very faithful to the books but still on its own I think it’s cool. I think they announced a spin off show or movie can’t remember. But tbh that one didn’t look too interesting to me. The animated movie was sick though

The animated movie was sick though Completely forgot about the spin off until you mentioned it. There's hardly been any marketing for it, but it looks like it's only going to be a miniseries (4 episodes). As of now, the release date is Dec 25. Honestly, it might be better that it's a miniseries. Ideally that would mean every episode is very significant and interesting, rather than a bloated story that makes you question why the show exists.

The animated movie was sick though Yeah there’s a miniseries taking place 1000 years before the established lore, likely when Monsters first arrived to the world I’d imagine. The original conjunction of the spheres. The series itself is still really good, I think Henry Cavill is heavily carrying it though. However, it’s true the show isn’t very faithful to the books or the games. Eskels character was absolutely butchered (no pun intended), Geralt, Lambert, Eskel and Vesemir are the only real Wolf school Witchers in most of the lore.

So House of the Dragon is kind of weird imo… too many time jumps. Should have done the first season with the younger actors imo.

I haven't seen it, but I do find it a very unusual choice to have such gigantic time jumps. Especially when it's within a season. Can't think of any other show that's done that

So House of the Dragon is kind of weird imo… too many time jumps. Should have done the first season with the younger actors imo. Meh, this is a natural result of the fact that this is an adaptation of an in-universe history book. I think they are done with the time jumps now though. I think the entire story will span from 101 AC (prologue) to 131 AC (end of the main conflict). The last episode took place in 129 AC, so we only have about 2 years left if they stick to the original timeline. But I don't mind the time jumps too much, though I think they could have gone a bit slower... but the main action starts in 129 AC so I guess they were eager to get to that in the first season.

The time jump in the recent episode was alright imo, and there’s a lot of tension set up now. The time jump after episode 5 though was pointless, it honestly just made the previous 5 episodes fairly irrelevant. You can just start the show at episode 6 and not really lose any comprehension for the story and also not get attached to the younger actors (who are better at their roles imo). I think the show is planned for 4 seasons from what I’ve heard.

Anyone watch she hulk lol. I'm not going to watch it because I'm 100% sure it will be mega cringe. But apparently the show is the way it is because the creators in their mind were "trolling the haters" or something like that. It's so exhausting to see studios antagonizing their audience so much. It's always Disney too it seems like.
This is basically the Disney cycle:
Step 1: Hire people that don't like or don't have any knowledge about the IP Step 2: Produce low quality content because they don't have the talent to do better Step 3 Blame the audience for the content being bad Step 4: Repeat

I watched episode 8 exclusively for Daredevil and his parts were good at least, Charlie Cox is a great actor. He actually auditioned for young Han Solo but failed his audition because he kept looking away from everyone. Was too used to playing a blind guy. Then I proceeded to watch episode 9 out of curiosity and it’s SOOO bad. Mega cringe.

Would've probably stopped after the 1st episode but they're like 20-25 mins each so I was hoping that maybe I just needed to get over an hour into the story (spoiler: that didn't make it better). Also the humor is very bad. I'm not sure who it's intended for, but I'm definitely not the target audience lol I think part of me is fatigued from so much MCU content, but also there's a noticeable quality dip post-Endgame. I'll still check out the movies since that's less of a commitment, but I don't think I'm going to watch any of the upcoming shows. If I do, it'll be after all the episodes are out and because I heard overwhelmingly positive things.

In terms of good TV, House of the Dragon is phenomenal. I think it's performing better than anyone expected. Also seeing GRRM declare the show's Viserys as superior to his novel's version really emphasizes its quality.
The time jumps were a bit chaotic, but I honestly don't have any complaints aside from that. The characters, writing, etc are all stellar.

Idk what characters they can bring in to make things more exciting but for me the Iron Man/Cap stuff was peak. Which is funny because apparently before MCU started, those were like B or C list heroes but they managed to turn them into icons. In terms of good TV, House of the Dragon is phenomenal. I don't have HBO but I might just get it for like a month or something after all the episodes have dropped

I’m really enjoying it, however I do still kind of think you can start watching at episode 6 and probably comprehend the story perfectly fine. Changing the actors mid season with a 10 year time jump was weird especially when Otto or Daemon look exactly the same.

It’s been one show other then Loki that I’ve actually been looking forward too since it was first revealed. Sam Jackson solo show seems cool and kind of unprecedented since he doesn’t really do TV much

Would you say scenes of a poorly computer generated green woman twerking with Megan Thee Stallion elevate such content to high end art? Also apparently one of the show runners admitted they find writing legal courtroom dialogue or general trial scenes too hard lol

It's few and far between at the vert least. You're right though, Hollywood used to come with one hit "album" for lack of a better word back to back in the 80s and 90s. Even the action films of the time felt more polished and more layered and well thought out than the stuff you get today. I mean, just random examples like The Goonies, Goldeneye Jurassic Park, Mask of Zorro, Beverly Hills Cop, Lethal Weapon, any of the Disney animated films from that era, hell even the romantic comedies felt a higher quality back then! These days it just feels like hardly anyone is bringing that quality to the table consistently anymore.

Has anyone watched Peacemaker? I’m a little bit slow to this but I just watched the first 3 episodes and wow this show is actually not bad and tbh it’s absolutely hilarious. John Cena is surprisingly a decent actor and if I had known James Gunn basically did everything for the show I would have likely watched it on release. Speaking of which I’m so glad he’s taking over the DC cinematic stuff.

Apparently after season 2 it gets a lot better, HBO took is over for season 3/4.

So Henry Cavill is leaving Witcher after season 3 and will be recast with Liam Hemsworth lol. No way they can get away with recasting the main character, show will definitely fall off after that.
Apparently one of the former writers on the show said how a bunch of people working on the show didn't like or respect the source material. I think Henry disagreed with their decisions a lot too since he is a fan himself which might be why he decided to leave.
Also that writer is now doing an X men show where he says he will only bring on people that are actually fans and will respect the lore. If only Star Wars could get these kinds of people... Seriously it feels like for all major franchises now, the people working on them actively hate the IP and their fans. It's bizarre.
But as for Witcher, honestly I might not even watch after Henry's gone. Man Witcher for me was sorta one of the few reasons to keep Netflix lol

Liam can probably look the part, but I'm not sure his acting can match what we got with Cavill. In so many ways, Cavill was Geralt. Hopefully the show retains its high quality, but it's going to be so jarring switching lead actors. I wish Cavill could've stayed on and completed Geralt's intended arc, then have Liam come in as a different Witcher to start a new story. But I guess that isn't realistic since they've mentioned how there's like 7+ seasons potentially planned. Still shocked Cavill would leave an IP he cares so much about... I guess his return as Superman and perhaps behind the scenes disagreements caused it.
