Might have been a little too critical of Hell Bent. It definitley isn’t worse than Love and Monsters. The acting is really good and almost makes the plot work. Capaldi is legitimately fucking terrifying during the Gallifrey scenes.
I guess when I first saw this I was really expecting a story that was all about Gallifrey. At least that’s what I was really hyped for at the end of the last episode. And I really wish Clara hadn’t been here. I thought maybe that at the diner he was talking to one of her “echoes” from Name of the Doctor. And I thought that was a good way to have her in the episode without undoing Face the Raven. But that’s a big problem. I love the way she went out in Face the Raven. Probably the best companion exit. And then that has her basically become immortal?
It isn’t the worst thing ever. Not incompetently made or anything. But I just think this was such a bad idea for how to end the Season. It should have been huge to finally be back on Gallifrey but that just becomes a plot device to bring back Clara.
Also The General saying how glad she is to not be a man anymore is cringe.

I can't say I've really enjoyed this season as much as the previous, but I where credit's due, this one really hit all the right notes for me. The mystery was so dark and suspenseful, not to mention how this was a showcase for Capaldi as someone with the acting chops to hold an episode all on his own. Only problem I have is that I'm not sure how they'll keep up the same level next time. You called it.

Discovering the disappointment I suffered then? Yeah I'm really surprised by the statement I made at them regarding the episode. To my recollection, I was honestly just a bit confused and didn't know how to take it. Really though my main problem is that betrays the last two episodes. It undoes Clara's death, which I think is the best companion exit they ever did. And it really doesn't do anything with Gallifrey, just making it a plot device to save Clara.

I would have expected the next season to at least incorporate Gallifrey a lot but nope... Would've been cool if they went back to OG Classic Who roots and have the Time Lords send him on missions and stuff
