Talk to the Mods- UPDATE!!!

Does the person who created a thread have the power to delete the thread they created as well? Or can mods only do that. I have some pointless threads I made that I think could go that are just taking up space.

Theres a lot I want to get rid of that are some pointless ones I made. The only one I made that I really want is the Clone wars talk really. The other ones are polls and topics that take up space and might make the forum go slower.

Potato if I gave you some of the threads I created I want gone could you delete them for me? As long as theres ones people care less about? Theres like 3 of them.

Since this is really Echanis first warning (like ban) and some sympathy towards him as a former friend we have decided to change the ban for a week he will be back next Monday.

I'm not taking a side just yet, but...

- Echani was obviously joking with those comments
- it's the cantina. You aren't supposed to take anything there too seriously
- things just as bad have been posted in the cantina a few other times. Nothing really happened with them (besides Rex, but he actually was outright trolling so...)

However, I do agree that some of the stuff he said was a little much. The ABC joke was pretty inappropriate for the forum standards (although I'll admit I laughed at it and didn't think he was serious). And he also posted a picture of weed which was odd... Echani does have a past with women and opinions on them. There was the whole model thread and the massive argument. All the mods were involved and so were many users. We managed to settle it down, but if I remember correctly, wasn't the main reason people didn't like it was becuase it caused too much anger between users? Cause if so, that's stupid. Have you seen the religious debates or political ones we've had? (Not to mention Spider and Pinda's ) And I know you may think that model arguments are childish compared to those, but that's what Echani wants to talk about. You can't just put him down and say those aren't things you should talk about. That'd be the equivalent of a user coming here and saying SW is stupid and we are little nerds and idiots for discussing it so profoundly. And while you may think he's dirty, he could be A LOT worse. But, just because he talks about girls and models and whatnot, doesn't mean he's some hormonal teen boy. He only posts the model's faces (which isn't inappropriate IMO) and generally says how he completely likes women based on personality and facial features. Nothing else like their butt, breast, etc. So that's not too inappropriate. Still, what he posted on the cantina weren't the best things. They could offend women and it apparently offended Bokatan (a girl user). It would've been one thing if he posted "JK" or " " right after on the same post. But he didn't, so some people could've thought that he was serious. His language and grammar were hints (IMO) that he wasn't serious though. It looked more like a joking teen boy that was trying to be funny. But I guess I was the only one who thought that...

And if you think that Echani's done bad stuff with posting about models and women in general, others have been bad as well. I won't mention names, but some users have posted links to inappropriate sites of females or males that are scantily clad or nude, and even posted models that are barely wearing any clothes. And many of us use the emoticon when speaking about things that aren't the most appropiate. I for one am 100% guilty of this. I'm even the one who started the trend of using that face when talking about something that's not totally appropiate. And I've probably posted some iffy content on the cantina, but I usually include the face and no one really reprimands me. Idk if its just the face that makes people know I'm joking, or if I just word my posts better, but I'm pretty sure that I've done some stuff that rivals what Echani's posted and nobody said anything to me (that I can recall). And I know others are in the same situation with me as well (once again, I won't mention names).

Echani does have freedom of speech though. And if you think this is a load of crap, let me refer you to Newan using it as an excuse to compare Hitler to God and how they're so much alike. Spider and I can gladly say that you really shouldn't say that. It's VERY offensive to us religious members here. So while freedom of speech should be allowed, it still is limited. I even believe there are some restrictions on it in the Constitution such as it not being allowed in a learning environment. (Correct me if I'm wrong. I very well may be )

However, I'd be a hypocrite if I said that Echani could use freedom of speech all he wanted on this topic while Newan and others couldn't on religion. I don't think complete freedom of speech should be allowed here. It just causes too much trouble on touchy subjects like religion, politics, models, etc. Of course, on lighter subjects, it's fine, but I suppose this isn't a lighter subject...

In other words, I feel that Echani shouldn't be completely excused just becuase he was joking and posted the stuff on the cantina. He shouldn't be allowed to say whatever he wants with no consequences. No one here should be able to think or have that privilege. (Not even Potato, although he's the admin, so... ) However, that should be a factor in deciding what his fate is. I do think that Echani should be punished in some shape or form because of his recent behavior. Those things (no matter if he was joking or not; whether it was the cantina or diner) could be quite offensive to some, especially women. And I don't blame for some to be upset with him or what he said. But that doesn't give anyone the right to bash him or put him down. And the comments like: "what the f*ck is wrong with you?" or "you disgust me" or other things about how immature or stupid he is shouldn't be justified because of that. Those are downright hurtful and just plain mean comments. No one should experience that. It can be considered cyber bullying. And that's not in the slightest, something to be taken lightly. Obviously Echani's feelings have been hurt. But once again, his feelings haven't been hurt over just a spilt cup of milk. The topic of which he made these comments are a most delicate subject on this site.

To bring a close to my rambling, let me say this. What Echani said weren't the nicest things. They weren't the most polite. And the mods and some others had good reasons to be angry with him. However, we still have to remember that this is the cantina. Things there are meant to he taken lightly and jokingly. Almost nothing serious is posted there. That's why we have the diner and other threads to be serious. The cantina is all jokes and lightheartedness. The comments that Echani received were also mean as well. They should not be justified by what he said, especially when he said he was "only joking". I know some of you may not believe his claim if him just joking, but, come on, many of us have known Echani for a long time and he's a nice guy. We can't rip him apart on this, especially when the mods overreacted somewhat. And although I feel something should be done to him as a result of the conflict he's created, Spider just banning him without consulting with us was a little extreme. I mean, I know the mods were upset with him, but you can't be the only ones with voices on this site. The regular members should have a say in if Echani should be banned, permenantly or temporarily. This to me just seemed like a bad move on the mod's part. They really should consult with us on issues this extreme so try can get many more opinions. Banning a user isn't a small problem. It's big and everyone should be included in it (if they want). If you just let mods decide, the opinion will be much more biased and not as open and thoughtful as one with all the user's thoughts and opinions.

So, I do agree that something should be done about Echani's recent behavior, and I'll admit that banning him seems like a nice solution, (especially how it worked with Dark) but we can't just rely on banning to solve problems. We should attempt as best we can to solve it verbally and not just by clicking a button that mutes him for however long you want. That may make some people view the mods as power hungry, all controlling jerks (I don't, but I know some others might). So, IMO, I think that no matter how tempting a week or so ban may be, I'd say at least talk with him and try to sort out the problem first. If he gets really mad and trolls or something, then I wouldn't blame you for banning him. But at least try to talk to him. And include regular users as well. That'll be much more efficient and hopefully solve the conflict in a much prettier way.

I get where you're coming from Star, but joking or not, talking about having sex and references to the penis have no place on this site. I don't care if he actually did that stuff (I know he didn't) but he shouldn't say stuff like that. Ever.

And why I clicked the button to ban him doesn't have to do with this. Echani ended his rant with offensive comments to each individual moderator and basically an invitation to ban him. When I saw what he had to say about me, enough was enough.

In response to what you said about us talking to Echani, we did. I PMed him personally last night to discuss what happened (in a very kind, respectful fashion.. I didn't accuse him or anything) and then all the mods PMed him today. He became very angry and said some of us were unfit to be mods, and that we were power-hungry, and that he was allowed to say what he wanted to say even if it offended people.

There is a line between respectfully disagreeing with us (as you have done, Star) and outright insulting us when we tried to discuss it with him nicely. He crossed the line of respect and just became rude, and it was time for him to go.

Just saying I am religious as well but I just don't always see eye to eye on everything in the bible as some people do. I think the whole point of the bible is too challenge it and find where your beliefs are.


But you forgot some other stuff like his Constant fighting with the mods (mainly Nam), trying to make us look bad all the time and I believe we had proof that he has trolled the guest section a lot... I don't really remember but I think Pinda or Nam does.


But it's only a week and that's less than what Dark got and I'd say This stacks up a lot more. It worked for Dark if may work now. I want a peaceful solution myself where everything works out. But it's mainly Echanis arrogance that he can't realize why he was banned (and for a very short amount of time as well...)
