Ok this is kinda random but I don't know why they had the Clovis arc chronologically take place in Season 6. It clearly wasn't supposed and it's awkward having it there. The character models are all old, Sheev is voiced by Ian Abercrombie, and Satine is referred to as if she's still alive. If memory serves, the Jedi Padawan arc screwed things up. That Clovis story was meant for season 5, but for some reason they did some swapping with them and the rest is history. I think it was because the Padawan story was well received, but I can't be sure.

Random question: what do you think the final episode of the show will be called? I was thinking "The Order" or even just "Order 66" but there's already an episode called "Orders"... so maybe something like "War's End"? Not an important question I know but I like thinking of stuff like this.

Personally I want it to be either Senate, or High ground, but Order 66, or Battle of the Heroes would do

Anyone remember at the end of the Zillo Arc of season 2 the plans Palpatine had for the scales of the beast? They were practically impenetrable and he wanted to build armor out of it for certain troopers. I wonder what ever became of that? I think it would be neat if they had an arc that revolves around that (won’t happen but still). The way the episode ended made it seem like they had plans to continue that plot but didn’t seem to do so. Like if the separatists get word of the republic research and there is an invasion for the plans and what not. I guess it’s like the season 2 episode when Kamino was invaded but still. Thoughts? I thought I heard way back during S3 that if the show stayed around long enough, that there would be a possibility to see another arc dealing with the Zillo Beast in S7.

I haven't watched most TCW episodes in a while, but I thought S4 was the strongest. The only weak episodes were the two dealing with 3PO/ R2, but they still gave enough thrills to be tolerable. Mon Cala was decent, and I thought Umbara, slave, bounty hunter, Maul/ Ventress, and both standalones were great. So 17/22 being really good made it a consistently strong season for me. The only other season with such great consistency was S2, but some of the stories weren't as complex, so I'd rank it below S4. Both S3 and S5 had amazing moments, but they also had some pretty weak parts, which makes it tricky to decide how to rank them compared to the others. S1 was the weakest I think, but that's mainly because the show was establishing its tone and setting up for larger events later on. TCW seasons are so hard to rank for me. The strongest episodes came from the second halves of Season 3 and 5. But incidentally, the first halves of those seasons are complete Potato Rules. (Okay a bit of an exaggeration but they really drag 3 and 5 down). Season 1 felt a large large part like predictable Saturday morning cartoons aside from a few episodes. Good fun and a nice introduction but not comparable. Season 6 is just kinda weird to categorize as it was so short. If we got all the episodes, I feel like it might be my favorite season but alas. Season 4 probably has the strongest run of arcs and good variety, but also has Crisis on Naboo, an episode which retroactively ruins a whole arc for me. And then some misters like Shadow Warrior and the Droid Arc. Season 2 is the only season with no episodes I consider bad or disappointments. But still, the storytelling just isn’t as strong as it would be, so I don’t even know. I agree with you. It's the kind of show that should be ranked based on individual story-arcs rather than seasons, since the writing can fluctuate so much between episodes. S6 probably would've been the strongest one yet, but since we only got half of it, I can't really compare it. I think some of the filler stories got worse because the writers felt the need to drag those stories out for more than one episode. At least in earlier episodes, they knew to keep filler stories to 1-2 episodes. But the quality of other arcs probably also made them look worse too, given that we knew how awesome the show could be.

True. D-Squad and Younglings wouldn't have bothered me so much if they were shorter.

My clone wars season rankings would probably be:
Season 6 (If we include Utapau into that) Season 4 Season 3 Season 2 Season 5 Season 1

Ok I'm gonna break TCW seasons into halves (besides Season 6) and see of that's easier to rank.
11. Season 5 Part 1 10. Season 1 Part 1 9. Season 3 Part 1 8. Season 1 Part 2 7. Season 2 Part 2 6. Season 2 Part 1 5. Season 4 Part 2 4. Season 4 Part 1 3. Season 6 2. Season 5 Part 2 1. Season 3 Part 2

Just read both Age of Republic graphic novels, they are pretty interesting self contained character stories. It’s cool that most of the either take place pre TPM (Maul and Qui-Gon) or in between episodes 1 and 2 (Kenobi, Dooku and Jango). Only Anakin, Padme and Grievous stories take place during TCW. Although I liked Windus little short story, that was pretty badass. And the little short of Ventress right before she meets Ahsoka in season 5 was cool.
I’d rank them: 1. Jango (just not enough Jango content in the universe and seeing him train with Boba is cool) 2. Maul (Cool Jedi Maul vision and his comics are always cool) 3. Dooku (I want more stuff of Dooku immediately post TPM, again it’s such an unexplored period) 4. Qui-Gon (Again another quite under explored character, always nice to see him in pre TPM stuff) 5. Kenobi (I find the master Kenobi and kid Anakin dynamic usually boring or annoying but it worked well here) 6. Anakin (Would have been a decent standalone clone wars episode tbh, must have taken place almost immediately after he was knighted cause his relation with Yularen was new) 7. Padme (kind of boring but thst basically describes her character, although it had a certain charm to it I guess) 8. Grievous (first few pages are awesome, we need more Jedi killing Grievous but it was the shortest comic and the rest was kind of weird)
Anyways I like these types of comics that give you the characters (protagonist) thoughts and it had cool flashbacks throughout. Will definitely check out the Age of Rebellion ones when they get released as novels in September.

Posted this on r/clonewars https://www.reddit.com/r/clonewars/comments/gp1chq/the_case_for_season_1/
The Case for Season 1
Will start by saying I grew up with this show and watched it religiously every episode since the beginning. So that is sure to sway my opinion.
I see it recommended quite often that new viewers begin with Season 2 of TCW, sometimes even with Season 3. While I acknowledge the first season is the weakest, I believe it is a mistake to skip it outright, for a couple of reasons.
The first is simply because it introduces a lot of characters that will return later. Rookies introduces Domino Squad, and it would be quite awkward to watch Season 3's Kamino Arc with Hevy seemingly being killed offscreen. Hondo and Cad Bane are introduced here, and while you can basically figure these guys out starting with any episode they're in, I think both of their introductions here are memorable and effective.
If you want to continue with Rebels after TCW, I think it is a lot better to know who Cham Syndulla is from the Ryloth Arc. Additionally, a moment like Waxer's death on Umbara is going to be a lot less powerful if you skip those episodes. Plo Koon's character is wonderfully expanded in this show, and while he still is a great character later on, I think you lose something if you don't learn what his relationship is with Ahsoka.
A big complaint with this season is that it's just too basic. There aren't many twists and turns. Nearly every episode is just clones vs droids, ship vs ship, Jedi vs interchangeable Separatist bad-guy, etc. And yes, it is very simple for that reason. But I think it is important to establish that baseline, and it makes later seasons more rewarding when we break away from it.
For example, in Season 1, Asajj Ventress appears as a pretty one dimensional bad guy. And then in later seasons she becomes way more interesting. I think it is important to see her as she was in order to appreciate her change and growth.
Similarly, Ahsoka is quite immature in this season and she was a big turn-off for many viewers. But if you skip to the days where she has already learned her basic lessons and has become a more capable Jedi, you're missing a crucial part of her character arc. It's rewarding to see how strong she becomes particularly because of where she started. Her successes later on are much more satisfying if you experience her early failures, misconceptions, and mistakes.
My last point is simply that I believe this season is far better than it is made out to be. It's simple, yes, but its pretty consistently good. There are really only two episodes which I think are flat-out bad. (Downfall of a Droid & Bombad Jedi)
The rest of them are at least "good" with some stellar episodes such as Rookies, Dooku Captured, Trespass, and Hostage Crisis.
And it's not as "kiddie" as you might be led to believe. Sure there's no decapitations in this season, but you still have episodes like Lair of Grievous, which is pretty eerie and brutal, and episodes which have a lot of maturity like Liberty on Ryloth and Hostage Crisis.
For these reasons, I think you should at least watch some of Season 1. I find something to enjoy in all of the episodes, but if you just want the essentials, I would watch the following episodes:
1x02: Rising Malevolence
1x03: Shadow of Malevolence
1x04: Destroy Malevolence
1x05: Rookies
1x09: Cloak of Darkness
1x10: Lair of Grievous
1x11: Dooku Captured
1x12: The Gungan General
1x15: Trespass
1x16: The Hidden Enemy
1x19: Storm over Ryloth
1x20: Innocents of Ryloth
1x21: Liberty on Ryloth
1x22: Hostage Crisis

Yeah that season tends to get a bit too much hate or just ignored in the mix. Ryloth is still one of my favorite arcs with the way the 3 episodes were split up.
And I really appreciate how season 1 probably was the best season at showcasing different Jedi. It gave us episodes featuring Plo, Yoda, Mace, Aayla, Kit Fisto, Luminara all in leading roles in their respective episodes.

I feel like that Rex/R2 arc might have shown Gregor’s return. Tbh they might've never shown Gregor again he was probably just stuck into Rebels for views That arc probably would've shown how Rex knew how to fly the Y-Wing though. I don't think we've ever seen him fly anything before

It’s a cursed phrase now but it’s true that “there’s good and bad both sides”
But the fact that is so taboo to say that is a perfect indicator of the problem. There are loud voices on both sides that deny that reality and are so convinced their side is virtuous and the other should be stamped out at all costs.
There always will be people like that but it’s fine as long as they are small minorities that balance each other out. But now you have the majority of institutions such as Hollywood, Academia, and the Mainstream Media have all bought into that.
That’s how you get a cancel culture that is actually effective at destroying people’s lives for “wrong think”
