Dark Disciple (SPOILERS)

Oh yeah, I got this back at the end of July and finished it a couple weeks later. I sort of want to talk about it. Here are some thoughts (well, more of issues that I had. I liked the book overall though) :


-There's no way the jedi council would have realistically let Vos return. It doesn't matter if it was part of a plan to kill both Dooku and Sidious. Vos was responsible for the deaths of two jedi and several clones, none of whom were in on the plan. If they were part of the undercover mission then it would have been a bit better, but Vos needlessly killed them in this case. That alone should have got him banned from the order.

-The jedi council was stupid again. Execution?! WTF. I really didn't like that part. There's no way that the jedi council we've seen would suggest execution for someone like Vos. It just completely contradicts everything they stand for.

-I don't like how much Mace was antagonized in this book. It seemed like every piece of dialogue he had was meant to make you dislike him. I get that he's much more firm and no-nonsense than other jedi, but I think they took his darker attitude a bit too far. It makes him look like a darker jedi than Anakin, which is completely wrong because Mace is supposed to be distrusting of Anakin for that very reason in ROTS.

-I really disliked how Dooku was portrayed in the second half of the book. For the first half he's a really intimidating villain, but then he gets his butt handed to him by Quinlan and captured by the jedi. And then shortly after that he's injured in the shuttle crash and spends the rest of the book limping and moaning in pain. I don't mind Grievous looking weak, because I think he should be shown as vulnerable, but Dooku shouldn't be portrayed as weakly as he was here. Him getting captured was really stupid too, especially because it was a complete fail on the jedi's part. The jedi wanted to kill Dooku for the entire book, and when they finally get him they change their minds and decide to take him to Coruscant? And they think that a squad of clones and two jedi are enough to successfully get Dooku and Vos back to Coruscant?

-I haven't read Son of Dathomir since last year so I might not remember the exact details, but aren't the Pykes and Black Sun allies at this time? That part of the book took place before Son of Dathomir. And during Son of Dathomir, the Pykes and Black Sun are still united under Maul. Are the ones from the Shadow Collective just splinter groups of their respective organizations now? Are the Pykes and Black Sun here the "real" Pykes and Black Sun?
