This has been rumored for a long time and everyone knows about it, but I think we should have a thread for it. The current rumor's saying that one of the writers, who helped write Episode 7, is considering changing Boba Fett's backstory. Apparently he doesn't like Boba's backstory from AOTC and he wants that clone Boba to get murdered in the Boba Fett Spinoff and have his murderer take the Slave I, his armor, and his name. I really hope they don't do that. Not only is it disregarding previously established canon, but it also just seems really selfish to do that because you didn't like how a character was written. But still, it's just a rumor. I don't know exactly when this movie's aimed to be released, but all I've heard so far is 2018, so it's quite a ways out.

It's weird because it would actually work, but I don't really see why they need to completely kill a character off to restart them because you didn't like them before...

Why not just make a new character if your destroying everything about the original? I think they're only keeping his name so they can market it better.

It's just a rumour, and a ridiculous one at that. Make a new bounty hunter but they're surely not going to do this. Lawrence Kasdan is writing it, I think.

It actually kind of makes sense that Lawrence may not like it, considering he wrote ESB which was the first story to have Boba Fett as an important character, but George had a backstory in mind for Boba and if Lawrence doesn't like it he can fuck off.

That actually isn't entirely a bad idea though it's kinda stupid because young Boba would need his armour and everything to be too have it stolen hmm. I don't think it would work well but still it's interesting.

I don't like how hey gave boba a shit backstory in clones. They squeezed all the coolness out of boba when they made him a clone having millions of different boba fetts. I really don't want them to make a spinoff backstory on boba. Yes boba is a badass. But the thing that makes him badass is that he is very mysterious and is just there. But with him having his own film it would just suck it all away.

They had a better minor backstory in the EU.

Actually George already planned him as a clone during the OT. Right...I don't believe that. They had a better minor backstory in the EU. The original plot he had in mind was that Palpatine created a secret clone army and used it against the Republic - Boba was supposedly one of them. Of course, the story changed, but in essence they connect.

I actually like the idea...to some extent, it is better then Boba being a clone...

I actually like the idea...to some extent, it is better then Boba being a clone... But Boba is a clone so having some other chump taking his identity and getting rid of the actual Boba Fett is.. Well......

I actually like the idea...to some extent, it is better then Boba being a clone... But it would mess up the prequel trilogy and TCW. It's boviously not what George Lucas intended for Boba, and it's his universe.

If this movie came out, I would consider it EU material. As Potato had said, it goes against Cannon material. You can't just randomly change the backstory of Boba Fett; even after the fact the movies proved the original story of his.

Well technically it doesn't overwrite anything but regardless, it's pretty ridiculous.. But I don't think this is legit..

George wrote all of the movies in one script and turned it into 6 movies plus some. I read two of his biographies for school and they both said this.

I think that his backstory is best told in comic book form, much like Deadpool.
