Yes, because there was so much Tolkien did with the books that wasn't put into the movies. I distinctly remember thinking that in TROTK the Cirth Ungol Tower chapter was really interesting in the book, because of how he described it. It was scary and mysterious. In the movie it felt rushed and didn't seem to capture any of the that felt in the book.

This is a new series I've begun to read call TimeRiders. It's actually very good IMO. You can read the plot of it on Wikipedia. To be brief it's about three teenaged who have cheated death and now travel through time to save the world. It may sound cheesy but it isn't.

No, Star, he's seen LOTR. Probably many more times than the rest of us have, too. He meant that the books may contradict his idea of LOTR because they changed stuff for the movies, and what Newan said about the Hobbit movies, too. Yeah, after reading the books and seeing the movies as well, I have to say that I like the movies, but some of the things that were in the books that they didn't include kind of disappointed me. Such as Tom Bombadil not being included, for those who have read the FOTR. He would've been cool to see. I hated Tom Bombadil. Worst character ever. I almost stopped reading.

I didn't have a problem with him, I have a problem with Peter Jackson's outrageous ego.

Don't you enjoy wondering about what the heck he was? And yes he did do something for the story. When the four Hobbits were attacked by Barrow-wights, Tom saved them and gave each of them a dagger from the barrow. Those daggers were enchanted, made by the Dúnedain of Arnor for combat against the Nazgûl, and without his dagger Merry would not have been able to hurt the Witch-King.

That doesn't mean they needed to spend that much time on him. He could've just done what he needed to do and left.

I didn't have a problem with him, I have a problem with Peter Jackson's outrageous ego. He was a giant waste of ink. He do anything for the story or to help the hobbits. He was just there. At that point, I think he Tolkien was taking his writing slightly less seriously. (That's just my guess) I just find it interesting wondering about his back story. It sort of foreshadows a higher power in middle Earth, and not one entirely of violence. I think the main reason he was included was to give the story some balanced. Dispite all that, he's still one of my least favourite characters in the series.
