I’m not even kidding when I say the people on this site could write a better Star Wars trilogy. Yeah like tbh it's not that hard if you actually know a bit about the source material. The hardest part is stuff like themes and archetypes and making sure they are sound. But like if your job for which you get paid is to write shit why can't you do that lol

I’m not even kidding when I say the people on this site could write a better Star Wars trilogy. We don’t need to, they don’t need to. Just take the Thrawn trilogy, or KOTOR games, bane trilogy, etc and make it into movies. Easy profit. Or the Plagueis novel.... Literally all those stories are loved by those who read and played them, but the greater audience is unaware of their existence... the fans will love it, if the casuals love Star Wars they would also love those stories.

Wait so since Ahsoka voice is heard in ROS with the other dead Jedi... she died at some point while searching for Ezra and Thrawn or soon after I suppose.
Technically she cheated death anyways Rebels spoilers

Technically she cheated death anyways Rebels spoilers Idk why people are so upset about hearing Ahsoka's voice especially for the wrong reason. She has to die at some point I don't really care if she doesn't reach the OT gang's age in these movies. Tbh I hate seeing characters when they're old it's just not the same But anyway the real reason at being upset should be because only certain Jedi are able to manifest after death not the whole order... lol something people aren't realizing

Could've just made a season 5 instead of ending it. I'll be really pissed if they "revive" Rebels over TCW... However I am somewhat interested in seeing what happened to Ezra and Thrawn. I'm not sure what the best place to show that would be though

It likely is if Trevorrow specified it as purple. No idea why else Hux would even have a lightsaber though.

Definitely interesting scenes, but whether or not it translated into something good is beyond me I love the idea of Coruscant playing such an integral part, along with Mortis and Luke playing a bigger role, but I'm really unsure if this would've turned out even half decent.

The writing is equal to the OT's and even better in most places. They don't seem to undermine anything in my opinion so i'm not sure what you mean with that. Transformers is a very low bar. These movies far outshine those films with acting and production values alone, not even mentioning all the other things they do better then that Micheal Bay franchise. To me this trilogy was perfectly star wars in every way and more. I haven't been this excited for Star Wars in a long, long time.

Pretty much all the achievements and development of characters of the PT/OT is completely overwritten. The galaxy is in the exact same place as it was which doesn't really make sense to me because it doesn't feel like the logical progression of the story after ROTJ. Han having changed to become a better person abandons his wife and kid to go back to being a shady smuggler. Luke had learned the failures of the Jedi and was on the path to creating a new and better Jedi order. Instead he acts like he has learned nothing and abandons his friends in their time of need. Luke's characterization was just completely wrong tbh the guy who saw the good in one of the most evil dudes in the galaxy is suddenly contemplating killing his nephew lol The entire chosen one prophecy is ruined as well as Rey is now the new chosen one basically. Anakin's whole arc was destroyed when Rey and Kylo popped some ez force revives on each other. "To cheat death is a power only one has achieved." Anakin wasn't even in the entire trilogy when the whole story is supposed to be about him. That was most outrageous to me. He would've intervened so Kylo wouldn't have turned to the dark side. Besides ruining old characters, they ruin the new ones too. No one has a coherent well written arc. Kylo's "conflict" doesn't make any sense. Poe was turned into an impulsive hot head, Finn, who should've had an arc about being force sensitive and trying to help his fellow stormtroopers, is demoted to a janitor, and Rey is just overpowered, not relatable and uninspiring. The beef between Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams is pretty obvious as well and seriously hurts the movies. TLJ retconned and undermined TFA and TROS did the same to TLJ. Changing the directors and them retconning everything makes the story just so inconsistent and incoherent. Neither directors cared about or respected the lore and now have completely broken it

The beef between Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams is pretty obvious as well and seriously hurts the movies. TLJ retconned and undermined TFA and TROS did the same to TLJ. Changing the directors and them retconning everything makes the story just so inconsistent and incoherent. Neither directors cared about or respected the lore and now have completely broken it Alright i'll to go through everything you've mentioned First of all. The actions of the heroes in the original trilogy aren't overwritten at all in my opinion. They created an era of peace and freed the universe from the Empire for a long time. That's quite and accomplishment. If it would've last forever it would have been boring. Star Wars has always been about legacy and tragedy, and tragedy is logical next step in their story. To me it feels absolutely natural. Luke tried to follow the teachings of the old Jedi, which was severely flawed to begin with. This caused the fall of Ben Solo which in turn caused tragedy for Leia and Han (their relationship always being kind of strange to me) so they went their separate ways. Doing the things they know best. Also it was never said Luke was going to create a better Jedi Order. In fact, Luke learned the hard way how flawed the ways of the Jedi and the Sith are. Which is the central theme of this final trilogy. In the Prequels the Sith won, in the OT the Jedi won, in the sequels it is true balance that wins. It's the simple poetry of Star Wars that makes me love the franchise so much. Luke has been a big controversial point for a lot of people. Personally i think Luke was never really that interesting. He was the blank slate character to carry us through the story to me. However the Last Jedi made him an excellent, well rounded character with actual conflict and a fantastic story arc. Also it allowed Mark Hamill to show of his acting skills (the sequels have the best acting out of all SW movies) "The guy who saw the good in one of the most evil dudes in the galaxy is suddenly contemplating killing his nephew." People bring this up a lot and i don't get it. This was an amazing revelation that had me at the edge of my seat the first time i saw it. It makes total sense to me. Luke has always been hot headed and afraid to lose the ones he loves (a lot like Anakin) so naturally he begins terribly afraid when he senses that darkness coming back. His reaction is the most human Luke has ever been in the whole saga. He knows he has the power to stop it because he knows what is coming if he doesn't stop it. But his love also holds him back from doing the deed on Ben Solo, and so he inadvertently sets his fears in motion. It is natural he runs away because he can't face his friends after this tragedy. Also, he was taught by Obi-wan and Yoda, who both ran away, so there's that. Now to Anakin's story arc. I dont'believe it has been destroyed in the slightest. The Chosen one prophecy was fulfilled in Return of The Jedi. Anakin did bring balance to the force, it was never stated it would last forever. Personally i believe this is, once again, the natural progression of that legacy (there's that theme again) Anakin's story arc is finished, it is continued here through the legacy of his children and the actions his story hhas brought on. Next, nothing is ruined. Old movies and characters can't be ruined by new content because you can always watch those movies again. At least that is the way i see it. "No one has a coherent well written arc" I'm really sorry but i couldn't disagree more. Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn and Poe have shot up on my list of favorite SW characters. Kylo Ren is probably the most interesting character in all of SW to me. His conflict and constant balancing of the tightrope between good and evil is fantastic. Adam Driver really was the perfect choice to portray this character. A character torn by the legacy ( ) of his family, both the good and evil. Rey is absolutely fantastic. Poe, to me, was just okay in the Force Awakens. But that Last Jedi made him a well written fleshed out character. Yes, he's a hot head, and he learned not to be in that movie. A lot of people seem to forget this. Some say the Rise of Skywalker did a reset on his story arc but they couldn't be more wrong in my opinion. He's goes from hot head to being the perfect general the Resistance needs. Saying Finn need a story arc about his force sensitivity and helping Stormtrooper is being mad at the film for not doing what you want, instead of looking what the films actually did. Finn has so much energy and charisma, he's a stand out character to me. Besides he goes from a Stormtrooper, to a selfish person, to a Resistance hero, that's character development and it is all carefully tread in the three films. He's basically a kid who still needs to learn alot (because of the brainwashing the First Order does since childhood he's missed a lot in life) He learns everything through Rey, Poe and Rose and becomes the Resistance Hero he deserve to be in the end, inspiring others like Jannah in TROS. Now to Rey, she's so good. More interesting than both Anakin and Luke (and that is coming from an Anakin fanboy!) She has boundless energy and is a great foil to Kylo Ren, since they are the same, yet complete opposites. Their connection is one of the most interesting and entertaining things in all of Star Wars to me. Also i've never understood how Rey is overpowered? What does she do that is so overpowered? I can't think of a single thing that is more overpowered then the OP things that Jedi and Sith do throughout the entire saga. Personally i wish Rey would've stayed 'No one' because that was one of my favorite moments from the Last Jedi. It really made her character especially interesting. However, after seeing a video that explains how the Emperor's musical theme leads into Kylo's and Rey's, i've gotten convinced it was planned from the start to have her related to the Sith Lord. Also it makes it incredibly powerful that she denies her evil legacy and chooses her own path. Beef between Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams? What? That isn't even obvious to me because it isn't there. Personally i was heartbroken when i saw how people attacked Rian Johnson after he made one of my favorite films of all time (The Last Jedi) But it was also funny and educational to see the human brain at work. Meaning that humans always looks for a scapegoat to blame. First it was Disney, then Rian, then Kathleen and now J.J. I wonder who is next. People love pointing fingers. That's the way i see it. "TLJ retconned and undermined TFA and TROS did the same to TLJ" - "Neither directors cared about or respected the lore and now have completely broken it" I don't have much to say about this honestly. First of all nothing was retconned or undermined. The movies build on each other to an epic climax between good and evil and then finally letting that conflict go. Also, in my honest opinion, the lore isn't broken at all. It has only been added on. So there you have it. I could go on for much longer but i only intended to react to your reply Sorry for the late reply, i didn't have as much of free time as i had hoped. Also, i hope i didn't upset you in any way, because that isn't my intend, nor do i wish to change your mind. I just wanted to give my opinion for once and hopefully give you and others a better understanding why i think this trilogy was a blast. I've tried to voice my opinions on other forums but i've always been banned or bullied because of it (for liking a movie, can you believe people are that pathetic!?) so it was a big relief that i could let out my voice here for now. So thank you for that!

Thanks for the post Ivar-Jedi it was interesting to see your thoughts. Sorry you got attacked for your opinions elsewhere. I know on Reddit the Star Wars subs are always polarized with one side of the fandom or the other always getting attacked and downvoted for sharing their praise or criticism lol. I think there are ways to explain the "problems" people have as you just did. Personally I can't agree or see some of them as being a stretch but I suppose we can't really say whether one person is right or wrong lol. I can probably write a multiple page essay of everything wrong with the sequels lmao. But for now I guess I'll just post my thoughts on the characters as that was a big part of your post and I didn't really go into much detail in my original post. I will first say I think the actors are all phenomenal and it's sad to see their talent wasted on characters that I feel are not well written. Because of their performances I really wanted to like these characters but I just can't... Luke: I won't lie I thought the idea of seeing the Jedi as failures and wanting the order to end was interesting. But Luke was the wrong character to give this viewpoint to. Everything in TLJ feels like a 180 flip of OT Luke. And it's not really explained well which I think is the bigger complaint people have. I think the fact that you never found OT Luke interesting helps you accept the new Luke. But fans of OT Luke are disappointed to see their hero be in this defeated, depressed state. I brought up Luke was supposed to build a better order because that's something you get reading between the lines of the OT and is also what has been shown in many Legends material and was sort of an accepted continuation of Luke's story Kylo: His conflict does not make sense to me. It might have if they showed some background but they didn't and that to me is an error. If he feels a pull back to the lightside I don't see why he doesn't just to back instead of continuing to act like an edgy angsty teen... lol. So given what we know, I don't understand how Kylo could turn to the dark side. He comes from a loving family and they all would have helped him deal with his darkness. Anakin's ghost would have as well. Kylo worships Vader but Anakin doesn't tell him he was wrong? Finn: I think he was just wasted. They missed many opportunities to make him an interesting character with depth to instead turn him into almost comic relief basically. He doesn't do all that much besides run after Rey and scream her name a bunch. Sure the movies didn't have to write his character a certain way. But shouldn't they have? I think seeing some arc about being a Stormtrooper would've ultimately been better than what we got. Cont.

Part 2
Rey: Honestly she is just a Mary Sue man I don't like using that term but I think it's ultimately what she is... She has no weaknesses, doesn't fail, has no humility. She can do all these crazy force powers and other feats with zero training. She beat Kylo on her first try too. Also they definitely introduced some lore breaking powers such as force heal, resurrection, teleportation, etc. that I didn't see you address. A lot of people explain this with the "dyad" but honestly I think that is another silly concept created by people who show they don't understand how the Force works
I also hate how she is constantly ditching her friends to go off on her own to show how strong and capable she is. She's also just a really bad Jedi and displays no traits of a Jedi... Her reaction to everything is get angry and swing around her lightsaber. She killed Kylo when he was unarmed and clearly distracted. Also idk what you think of the Reylo romance I think that was pretty dumb though... Like I wouldn't have minded it at all if it wasn't a straight up abusive relationship which is not a good message to send. Oh also she steals the Skywalker name while being a descendant of their enemy lol. Kinda sucks how all the Skywalkers are dead while the Palpatine bloodline continues
Palpatine: Skipping past not explaining how he's alive, they just turned him into an idiot tbh. Guy had no plan which is strange considering he carried out that masterful plan in the PT to destroy the Jedi. He kept flip flopping on what to do with Rey, kill her, or let her kill him so he can possess her. The latter happens but there's no indication of any possession which is a plot hole I would say. Then the whole thing with the Final Order and puppeteering Snoke doesn't seem logical at all. Why is he pretending to be dead, how does he have the resources to create that fleet, why are they waiting around doing nothing etc. It's pretty obvious Palpatine's return was not initially planned. I think it's a result of Rian destroying everything single plot thread in TLJ that TFA set up. TLJ left them nowhere to go. And then TROS introduces all these new questions without ever answering them. Can't do that in the final movie...
About the directors, maybe Rian and JJ don't have an actual beef but I think it's safe to say they don't have a good relationship. I'm not sure how you couldn't see that though. Like I said Rian didn't carry forward JJ's plotline set ups well. I guess that's a nice way of saying Rian shit on TFA. So in return JJ shit on TLJ. Basically removed Rose, Holdo maneuver is now "one in a million", repaired Kylo's broken mask to never even have him use it, Rey isn't a nobody, Anakin's lightsaber is repaired, etc. There are just so many inconsistencies with the movies tbh. Changing directors with totally different ideas and not having an overall plan for the story really hurt them.
Hopefully this wasn't too harsh. I don't really want to make people feel bad for enjoying something lol. I like to think I understand Star Wars pretty well and I love so much the world George created and the vision he had. From a fan perspective I think the sequels just don't hold up George's vision or respect it. If they did these movies would have been a lot different. From a movie watcher's perspective... I genuinely think they're badly written. There are major plot holes and inconsistencies. Character arcs or other plot points are not executed well with good set ups and strong payoffs. Besides that there's just too much nostalgia pandering and cringey humor and dialogue that has no place in Star Wars. I will go as far as to say I don't consider these movies canon but unfortunately at the end of the day I know they are and always will be... Well that is the end of my rant lol

TROS novelization confirmed that Palpatine was a clone. Then why does the clone look so mangled and messed up? The more I here about Palps in this, the more I am certain they just made this all up as they went along. The lack of professional storytelling in a giant mega franchise is just plain shocking even now.

They keep releasing little tidbits of background info that should've just been in the movie in the first place lol
