Yeah I feel you. I saw how he was in blackface over three times, that seems like so much work to do especially because he covered his feet. It seems strange in general. Since I don't know much about him I would say it seems like a poor choice to do that especially with the Aladdin costume. He looked super sketch in one video I saw covered head to toe. Is he just stupid or does he think that was acceptable? I'm not really sure lol he seems kinda goofy for that to me.

Well like I said, he’s only in power cause of his father who was the longest serving leader of our country.

Hi everyone, Not sure what prompted me to check this place out again, but I almost forgot the URL A lot has changed, not surprisingly. I'm out of college with a Geology degree, my friend group/ultimate frisbee team in college got completely disbanded, I lived in Minneapolis for a while selling mushrooms at farmer's markets and volunteering for food shares, I learned(more like re-learned) about the completely abusive and unacceptable practices of animal exploitation in agriculture, went vegan, and now I'm in Canada on a year-long work permit, doing various jobs. I've been a scare actor in a haunted house attraction, delivered food to homeless shelters via electric tricycle, and just got fired from my job as a cook at a restaurant. New plan is doing urban agriculture with a contractor who builds up gardens for residential properties and hotels and the like, and learn some hard skills of growing food and making lasting systems out of soil. So much time these days spent just trying to look for jobs and such its a nightmare, but every interview and idea is a step towards something else. I honestly can't believe y'all are still poppin in here Would love to hear more random stories like Echani's post Echani, that shit was terrifying and yeah, gotta stay aware of people, I don't trust people who drink regularly anymore, and the pandemic has completely drained any interest in alcohol from my system, which was nice. I have done a fookton of cooking and experimentation with vegan recipes so if anyone wants to hear about that, I got some fun ideas. I noticed people were talking about the impossible burger in the shoutbox so I just gotta mention that beyond and impossible are the tiniest corner of making food out of plants. They are kind of good but I haven't eaten it more than 3 times in the last year I don't think. Lentils are a much better idea for those who want to ditch meat, but you can't make a shareholder company based on selling lentils...

So you study the Earth and like the core? I want to become vegan it's very messed up how the industry is, I love chicken, steak, burgers, etc too much tho. Still isn't right for any animal to be raised in a factory like that, it's legal animal abuse. Which haunted house, down here we have Netherworld but I think it moved locations. That must've been fun, get any funny reactions to scaring people? That's what's up too you delivered food to the homeless shelters, I respect that a bunch that helped out your community a ton I bet. Aye, an electric tricycle that got dead, it fast? Nd yeah when it comes to my stories, IK people with way crazier stories lol. I did see my homie turn cocaine into (psuedo?)crack by melting it on spoon with a lighter one time. Yeah I don't get lit like I used too either, but that was only a very small period of time tbh. I do feel like an old person now can't lie. You got any good recipes for non-vegan to slowly get into veganism? Everything I try usually isn't good, but I've had vegan food at restaurant super nice place, delicious food. It was actually delivered on my worksite.

Really respect all your charitable activities that must feel fulfilling. I feel like it would be kinda fun to hop around between different jobs like that. Maybe not the most financially secure thing to do but probably a lot of interesting experiences to be had. I'm vegetarian but can't imagine going full vegan and cutting out things like dairy and whatnot lol. I went through a period where I felt like I should stop being a vegetarian because the only reason I am one is because that's how I was raised I guess due to cultural/religious stuff. But personally I don't care about that or even the well being of animals to be totally honest lol. But I think I'm over that now and kinda cool with staying vegetarian because honestly for some reason just the idea of consuming something that was living is weird to me... Not even like an ethical thing just feels weird and I can't explain it... About alcohol, yeah I never got into it. I've dried different stuff and it all just tastes so bad man lol. Decided it's probably better for your body and health to stay away from alcohol and drugs anyway. I'm sure it can be fun and I wouldn't judge people who do those things but I do kinda think it's better if you don't.

Idk if I ever talked about my job, I feel like I must have but yeah it's been like 7 months since I started as a financial analyst. It's so boring omg.... Up until last month it was completely work from home which was awesome because I'd just do all my work in a couple hours and spend the rest of the day chilling. But now we have to come into the office two days a week and it's a 30 min commute for me which sucks.
Not sure if any of you guys have or have had an office job but 8 hours at a desk staring at a computer is torment. Beyond me how people have done it for all these years but with the pandemic, remote work really feels like the way to go.
I've been thinking about quitting without even having anything else lined up and maybe going to Japan for a week or two and try to "find myself" lol. I've been very interested in Japanese culture and whatnot recently. I took a Japanese (also German) language course in college. Love how it sounds but pretty hard to learn. Also mostly listen to Japanese music now... Speaking of Japan, another mildly interesting thing but I bought a vintage jacket that the Japanese team wore at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Guess I've basically become a cringey weeb lmao
But yeah I really don't know what I want to do with my life, which I'm sure I've said. I feel like I really wasted college in a lot of ways. But biggest regret is probably the finance degree. I'm thinking maybe trying to do film school or learning 3D modeling. As a hobby I do some modeling for 3D printing on rudimentary softwares but it might be good to develop those skills and learn advanced softwares. Maybe could work on video games or something with that skill. Probably takes a lot to turn a hobby into a career but I think it'd be much more enjoyable to do something I'm actually interested or passionate about

Sounds like you've gone on quite the epic career wise and life wise. I found out about farming of meat in the US and it's not a pretty picture so I've been pescatarian almost ten years now. Any tips for decent vegan ideas though?

I've worked in this job as a call agent for over a year now and it's basically being on the phone for six hours, staring at a computer. For me, it's a 40 minute commute, but I don't mind it too much as I like the people I work with. That said, I've felt this job is grinding me down so I've also been looking around for better pastures. My suggestion is if you find a greater passion for modelling or filmmaking, what's the harm in developing those skills some more? You can start small and start devoting more down time towards those hobbies You need to have binged on Attack on Titan and One Piece to be considered a true weeb though

Yeah I guess mixed drinks are a little easier but still mostly something I'd have in a social setting and not something I'd drink to enjoy. And yeah beer sucks imo lol. Even the heavily flavored stuff I feel like you can somewhat taste the alcohol but I haven't tried a lot of those kinds of drinks so can't say for sure. Feel like that almost defeats the purpose though to dilute the flavor so much I think I do somewhat regret not trying weed, like you said just to have the experience. I was friends with a bunch of what you might call the stoner kids in high school lol. They would offer but I never went for it for some reason

I was friends with a bunch of what you might call the stoner kids in high school lol. They would offer but I never went for it for some reason I will say this, the more you drink the easier it is to drink. (in one sitting) I do feel like alcohol is for the socially outgoing, who have clubs, parties, lots of friends, because that's the type of environment most people enjoy drinking in...a social environment, not just home alone. A lot of the beers you describe do have that taste, and if you aren't used to drinking you'll definitely taste the alcohol still probably even if it is light. In terms of mixed drinks, just gotta keep drinking em the taste go away once you get a few in you. I'd suggest go to a bar with a friend and try a few new ones, maybe one may suit your fancy. In terms of smoking, you just got to do it when you feel comfortable to do so if so, and make sure you are with someone you trust who a good friend FORREAL, and bring extra food, you MUST have cold water nearby as your throat will feel like sandpaper and the driest hands imaginable. I'm still friends with a few people from high school, but I ain't gonna lie I didn't realize graduation day would be the last day I would see a bunch of them. Sometimes I think about texting some of them but it's been a long time, I feel awkward reaching out of the blue. I remember I used to always want to get out of school, but now I miss those days can't cap.

Hey guys, I was gone for a few weeks... Haven't exactly had a great start to the new year (to put it midly). Good to see some old faces again here. How have you been Echani and Killa? Are you still in touch with each other or did you both just randomly show up here again at the same time? Hey Pinda, hopefully things are better now school going well? Well I am doing better now. Things were kind of shit for a while, still not 100% great, but good enough for now. My study was going really well, but I kind of messed something up (most likely) because I couldn't concentrate on it for a few weeks.

Kind of interesting how some people are suddenly turning up here again. Sounds like you have had an interesting few years. Looking for a job sounds like it sucks. I am currently in my 8th year of university, so I have been delaying that for a while. Also chickpeas > lentils. But beyond and impossible burgers are shit. The Dutch brands are pretty good, though I don't compare it to real meat, as I cannot remember the taste, just to what tastes better. The best company here for vegetarian 'meat' is also working on a way to generate milk directly from grass basically cutting out the cow), which would make it vegan milk somehow, which is really interesting.

Everything I try usually isn't good, but I've had vegan food at restaurant super nice place, delicious food. It was actually delivered on my worksite. Yeah its a pretty broad subject so I did classes on how different rocks can form/get metamorphized by heat and pressure, sedimentary formations and lots of other stuff. I'm mostly interested in soils and how geological cycles could help capture carbon from the atmosphere. I might go back to school for it, but right now I'm trying to find a job working directly with soils and agriculture to learn how to grow food in case of a disaster... :/ Haunted house was a place called Vancouver Horror Nights. I was a Blood Demon, and had to wear a giant silicone devil mask. Uncomfy, but pretty good pay. World's first vegan blood demon I think. It was pretty fun getting to yell at strangers about how I can smell their bloooood and wanting to drain them every night. Would have to say the best thing you could do is start to learn how to cook for yourself. The hardest thing I found about the shift was changing how I interacted with most restaurants and events where you get food. You have to be more careful and specific about what it is that you want, ask more questions. But otherwise, the change was simple and straightforward. Just stop buying animal products, use what you have in your house up and learn lots of recipes online. Start with basics, how to prepare beans and grains(cooking with dried beans and grains is probably the easiest trick to reduce food costs), and techniques like stir fry and baking go a long way if you get creative with the kinds of vegetables you use. One recipe? Lentil Dal with rice I could eat every day and not get bored, and preparing it takes less than 30 min and just one pot. Learning to use tofu is also super easy, its super versatile and absorbs any spices and flavours you like, has lots of protein and kind of has that meaty texture you might crave. Overall the best thing you could do if you want to start eating plant-based is start by learning a bunch. Whether its documentaries about animal ag, environmental impacts, or just finding a vegan version of your favorite food (it is definitely out there), there's tons of resources out there on the world wide web, all you have to do is seek them out What did you try vegan that you liked?

Welcome back. I love all beans <3 It's chaotic but I'm liking it. Not like I haven't been trying to find a more career-focused job, they are just hard to get... Europe in some ways is worlds ahead of America in terms of the food transition. I was just over there (mostly in Denmark) for a study away program and if you can, get over to France and try some of the vegan cheese... found a vegan brie that was made from almonds but it had the rind and the musty flavor of brie almost exactly. Amazing on a baguette. There's so much focus on replicating the texture and taste of meat exactly, but I feel like that's kind of dumb. Like the most 'accurate' meat would have tendons, cartilage, gristle, all the nasty shit that is the reason most people eat exclusively chicken breast meat these days. I think of it the other way round: Chicken breast is about as close to tofu as meat can get!

Sounds like you've gone on quite the epic career wise and life wise. I found out about farming of meat in the US and it's not a pretty picture so I've been pescatarian almost ten years now. Any tips for decent vegan ideas though? www.okonomikitchen.com/tofu-fish-fillet/Haven't tried this myself but it looks bussin'

Geology degree, that's what's up. Well I do be cooking up some stuff, but I like usually cooking with the meats. Honestly I'm not a very big vegetable person though, I won't go out of my way for them, but I love cheese as well. Yeah rice stuff like the cheap, but I'm not really a big fan of rice or beans too much tbh. Never actually had tofu I'd like to try it. I feel like I could definitely adjust of my eating habits, I'd probably feel better too. It was a vegan burger but it tasted really good, and I swear veganism gives you superpowers because a customer I know who is super healthy never ages and can lift crazy amounts despite not being huge. He gave me a 100% non concentrate blueberry juice, it tasted super sour and it took a bunch of blueberries. You know what I find messed up? How lobsters get boiled alive, that's so wrong. I definitely think about the mistreatment a lot, animals are basically facing a holocaust at those plants that we refuse to talk about, if you look at the conditions of chickens farms in the U.S....it's horrendous. I really do think about it a lot, it is just hard to make a switch plus even though I'm not contributing to the problem if I go vegan...I'm also not stopping it. So it is kind of like what's the point, but in terms of being healthy like veganism has some powerful benefits imo.

Kenbo yeah I don’t really like office work much either tbh. I have to do quite a lot of it but I prefer doing other stuff. Do you drive by chance? Honestly I felt like my life became so much better when I started driving, I honestly hate being a passenger now.

Hey man, nice to see another old face around here what part of Canada are you in if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been in Canada since I was 7 after moving from the States. Sounds like you had a lot of fun adventures in the past few years, and congrats on the degree!! Chilling it up in Vancouver, but hopefully going to be travelling more when the spring comes. Oh wow, never been to Vancouver. Nice weather but how do you afford anything? I hear the prices are insane there being only second to like Toronto area. I’m not super far from you, in Northern Alberta. Kind of sucks here though super cold and rough weather in general.

I had a Korean friend a long time ago and once had tofu at his house and idk what they did to prepare it but it was fire. I've never had tofu like that again, I don't eat it much because usually it tastes pretty mid. Idk how people eat lobsters or like most seafood in general. A lot of sea food dishes where you can clearly see what the original organism was, it just does not look appetizing at all to me. Kenbo yeah I don’t really like office work much either tbh. I love having a car, I think it is basically what freedom feels like lol. I guess in more urban cities it's not really necessary to have one but in suburban areas like where I live, it's just not walkable and public transport is so bad and sketchy

Our population and infrastructure is so spread out and especially further north when it’s -40 Celsius in the winter you just can’t rely on public transportation at all, they don’t run busses in thst weather and only the biggest cities have any kind of rail system.

Kenbo I look at stuff from the ocean as underwater insects, especially like the lobster, shrimp, etc. It just taste eugh....like you can't cook out the ocean. When I was younger I once had good crab but then I got like fast food crab (Long John Silvers the most questionable fast food place) and it scared me away completely from the experience. I tried salmon from a restaurant (dad gave me a few bites) and it was honestly pretty good. I guess it is where you get the seafood at, but still I have a tough time with a lot of it. I can do fried ocean stuff though, it tastes way better and I can't tell as much.

Living with housemates and we got lucky finding a house that will probably be torn down soon... Literally the land that it is on sold for 3 million... Prices are pretty bad but I get by by eating vegan and getting mostly whole foods like sweet potatoes, lentils, tofu and the like. I don't spend on much besides rent and food. Its nice but really not worth how expensive price of living is here. I want to go back to Minnesota eventually.

On its own, tofu definitely tastes bland, not that its unpleasant, just extremely neutral. One traditional way to eat soft tofu is just with some soy sauce and green onions on top. Tofu can be good savory, spicy, even sweet. Here in Vancouver is Sunrise Soya Foods, which is I think the biggest tofu producer in America, and they make smoked tofu that is amazing. They also have dessert tofu, which is soft tofu that is flavored with mango or peach, a bit like a custard pudding. Would definitely recommend if you see it anywhere.

Well... today marks the 10 year anniversary of this place... kind of crazy to consider... Certainly feels exceptionally weird. Still just feels like moments ago when I'd get on here each morning and get back to debating on who was scum
