Finally out of space! Here's the arcs where we break into what would become the norm for the show. No more running into Grievous or Ventress every single week, and some actual planets that look decent! And Hondo! YES!

The Dooku arc was definitely the best episodes of season 1 up until that point. I really like the dynamic and banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan throughout the show... it’s why I think the Utapau arc is one of the best arcs of the show.
Although really it’s not that long after AOTC, it seems weird to trust the capture of Dooku to Anakin and Obi-Wan. Also at first I thought it weird they would trust Jar Jar to the mission but then it made sense to me that Palpatine probably sent him cause he knew he would screw it up.
Hondo was a good reoccurring character although I’m not really sure if he would have made any appearances past season 5, maybe a cameo in the Bounty Hunter arc I guess.

Like seriously there was some aspects of the prequels in regards to really forced plot points in The Gungan General.... like if you have a chance to capture Dooku, the separatist leader but more importantly the Sith Lord then why only send 2 senators and 6 clones?
Like I know the Pirates were worried about conflict and wanted the Jedi unarmed but still if hostilities with the pirates were to happen it seems acceptable imo for the capture of Dooku. They should have sent Windu and Yoda with the ransom

Jedi Crash and Defenders of Peace are both very unique episodes imo, although come to think of is Trespass it pretty similar to them in a way of dealing with neutral/ secluded peoples.
Even though it’s not mentioned Aayla and Anakin are probably kind of close, they are about the same age and probably came up together in their training. It would have been interesting to have more episodes on the Jedi temple and stuff, and how it worked but without having to resort to little kids all the time like in the youngling arc...
Anyways these episodes feel like a mix of filler and and character building but both in a good way, also would have been cool to see Aayla and Bly more in the show. Maybe seeing Quinlan with Aayla would have been interesting since he was her master. Also not entirely certain why they didn’t give Aayla two lightsabers usually she was depicted with 2 before TCW I think
Jedi Crash: 8/10 Defenders of Peace: 8/10

Anyone else see one of the pirates grab that girl’s ass and then proceed to get slapped? It’s at the end of Dooku Captured. Never noticed it before.

Dooku Captured is a fun episode. Like Newan said, Anakin and Obi-Wan's banter is great here. Kinda like we saw in Cat and Mouse, we had Anakin complaining about always getting the shitty jobs and it kinda feels like AOTC Anakin. Also though we get him whining about wanting to be a master, and we all know how that goes. And of course, we get Hondo in this one. Hondo is fucking great and he brings an entirely different presence we were missing from the show. It was cool to see Gundarks too and their giant ears. Good TESB reference. That whole sequence is fun and the whole thing is just really enjoyable. One thing this episode brings out is the great dialogue this show has. It's neither pretentious like the prequels nor pandering like the sequels. It all just feels relatable and right. Great Episode. 8/10

Onto The Gungan General. Like Newan said, sending Jar Jar is a fucking terrible idea. You'd think they'd send Padme or Bail. Then again, Padme gets captured and held hostage pretty much whenever she does anything. It makes sense the Chancellor would do this. I'm not sure why they couldn't get Ahmed Best back but Jar Jar just sounds kinda weird here. Though it is kinda good that Jar Jar actually does some good shit on purpose with the geysers and the beasts. Anakin and Obi-Wan's banter continues to be hilarious and its escalated by Dooku being here. The episode is also quite brutal in a few places, Dooku's escape in particular. It's not as good as the last episode but still pretty good. 7/10

I like Jedi Crash. Yes, it's kinda filler but I like the lesson and development Ahsoka has. I like when they go into what it means to be a Jedi and how they contradict themselves by being generals and fighting. I like the atmosphere of the planet too. It's pretty obvious this episode was produced late in the seasons since the planet is animated pretty well. One thing that is often annoying in these episodes though is short scenes, where it feels like something is about to happen and then it just kinda cuts away to something else. Idk. It's just kinda awkward. The battle at the beginning was pretty cool too. I liked seeing this one in the sky instead of in space. It's pretty cool change on the standard battle and I feel like the only time we see that again is "Plan of Dissent." This episode is pretty straightforward but good. 7/10

Defenders of Peace is a good followup. This is random but I fucking love the scene where the battle droids start cheering for the weapon. This episode continues the dilemmas and moral questions and I like how (just like the moral) it actually chooses a side as opposed to trying to say pacifism and conflict are both right. I like when the team infiltrates the base too. It's a cool scene. One thing that bugged me was how off guard they all were in the long grass. Like, there might be more beasts out there from the last episode and you think they'd be worried about that. IDK. I like the idea of the weapon too and it's pretty cool to see in action. 7/10

Well at least we finished some of the worst areas of the show with the first half of season 1.... the first half of season 3 is kind of a grind as well, as is the first half of season 5.

I really like Dooku Captured. It's such a fun episode that gives us a different and exciting story with some of the main characters. The relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan feels really natural and is good here. Everything they do together on the Separatist ship and in the cave are very enjoyable.
Seeing Dooku placed into a situation he can't control is really neat too. Unlike other Sith lords, he tries to be more diplomatic with the pirates versus killing them outright. I also love Hondo in this episode as well as how everything falls into place for him. It was also funny when the Jawa got punched by a pirate in the background.

Yeah Dooku Captured is a lot of fun. I like the pirates, it's something a little unexpected. It's also surprising how much alcohol usage they showed lol... And also Anakin is only about 20 at this time I think is he old enough to drink??? hmmmm... Not sure why they used Indian music though lol
And lol you know Palpatine roasted the Potato is Awesome out of Dooku for getting captured like that after it was all over
I don't understand their original plan though. They knew which ship Dooku was on so they sent Anakin to pretend to get captured? Why, just to make sure he was actually there? And then they only sent Obi-Wan? Could've just sent a large boarding party or something to take him

"You haven't been this tense since we fell into that nest of gundarks."
It would've been cool if this was that moment but Obi-Wan says that before this episode takes place. But if Gundarks are only found on Vanqor the two would have been to the planet before and would've recognized it. Little inconsistency lol

Gungan General is a good continuation. Didn't know Anakin was a pole vaulter lol. But damn Jar Jar is autistic as fuck.... It's pretty much his fault the Senator died.
Where did Obi-Wan get his lightsaber though if they came unarmed? And how were they drugged if they swapped the drinks in the last episode? A couple more inconsistencies... But still a fun couple of episodes.

Gungan General is another enjoyable episode. Everything with Dooku, Anakin, and Obi-Wan is so fun to watch, and it's nice to see them all struggling to get along. Having Hondo and his pirates prove to be worthy captors is also cool. The fact that some of Hondo's men try to sneak behind his back is a good addition to the plot, since it only makes sense that there would be some traitors among Hondo's ranks.
It's a shame that Ahmend Best didn't voice Jar Jar for this episode. That bugged me a lot more than his character in this episode. And honestly, Jar Jar wasn't that annoying for me; he was actually pretty competent with his geyser insight and choosing to ride the skalders. The dynamic with him working alongside the clones was kind of neat, and it tied pretty well, albeit easily, into freeing the Jedi.
Dooku's escape at the end was pretty dark but fitting. I also like how Obi-Wan chose the honorable way to leave Florrum, shocking Hondo in the process. Even though Jar Jar made the episode a bit less serious, I liked having him versus Padme.

Jedi Crash is one of those episodes that flies under the radar for me in terms of how good it actually is. Although I like the first half of it more than the second, it's still very enjoyable throughout. Seeing the Separatists overwhelm the Republic in this battle was refreshing, especially with the addition of rocket droids. Having Anakin injured only added to the intensity of the war itself, particularly this battle. A battle occurring in the planet's atmosphere was also a good way to shake up the space battles that we've been seeing throughout the season.
Even once the setting changes, I really like the mystery vibe we get on Maridun. Just like the relationship we get between Luminara and Ahsoka, I think the one with Aayla and Ahsoka works just as well here, if not better. The dialogue is great and it's nice to have Rex and Bly thrown into the mix.
The Lurmen aren't the most exciting, but they do provide a neat take on the pacifist perspective of the Clone War. The interactions we get between them and the Jedi are handled well enough to keep my interest and avoid them becoming annoying.
Overall, this was a good episode that gave some great action sequences and character moments.
