Shit, JJ Abrams is back to direct. Not that I hated Force Awakens... but I fear JJ doesn't have the capability to be as original as other directs. Oh, well. I'm sure it will be better than IX under Colin Trevorrow.

Prediction:
Opens with a rescue mission at Unkar Plutt's junkyard. They all get captured and are about to be thrown into a not-a-sarlaacc-pit, but then BB-8 shoots out Rey's lightsaber and she kills all of Unkar's thugs. Oh yeah, and Finn strangles Unkar to death with a chain. Meanwhile, the First Order has just about finished Starkiller Base 2. They're going to test it on Ahch-To. Oh, and it's shield generator is also on Ahch-To... for some reason. The Resistance sends in a strike team to take down the shield generator. Rey comes with on the strike team after Luke dies of old age (despite only being 53). There's a speeder bike chase on Ahch-To, and the Porgs get in on the action and help the team beat the First Order's best troops and take down the shield generator. Rey gives herself up to Kylo Ren and is taken to Snoke's throne on Starkiller Base 2. Rey and Kylo fight and Rey cuts Kylo's hand off. Snoke tells her to finish Kylo, but she says she won't because "I'm a Jedi, like Luke before me". So Snoke starts electrocuting Rey with... wait for it... red lightning! That's new and different from blue lightning. Kylo then lets out a "Noooo!" and grabs Snoke and throws him down a conveniently placed reactor shaft. Kylo looks on Rey with his own eyes and dies. The Resistance then blows up Starkiller Base 2 after Rey escapes with Kylo's body. She cremates Kylo's body and has a musical celebration at the end along with Finn, Poe, and the force ghosts of Luke, Leia, and Kylo. The end.

In all seriousness though, I have faith that JJ will at least attempt something other than a Return of the Jedi remake. I didn't dislike The Force Awakens, I really liked it actually, and I found his excuse for reusing material from A New Hope valid. But that excuse can't be used anymore. We need to see new things. So fingers crossed that JJ pulls it off, because I am rooting for him.

I would not be surprised if this happened if they let the same people that did TFA do episode 9... Though maybe Last Jedi can take a different course and make sure episode 9 will not be ROTJ 2.

I do not think TFA was really a bad movie... If ANH had not existed it would have been a great movie... But ANH exists... So I am going to have to say I have little faith in Abrams after he basically modernized ANH while he was supposed to make a new movie.

As much as I don't believe TFA to be bad per se (it had its own share of major issues, but it kinda worked out) I still think Abrams is too much of a hack to really give this trilogy a properly good finale. However that's just no problem at all compared to the fact that LucasFilm seemed to have gotten drunk enough to hire Terrio. I'm getting scared guys...

I was fine with TFA taking things from ANH because it was a good setup to the trilogy... TPM honestly should have taken more things from ANH and less of what it actually did.
It really all depends on episode 8 tbh... we need a strong ESB movie and not a weaker AOTC

It should not have been like ANH. I like how TPM, for all it flaws, tried to tell a new story, sure there are some elements from the original trilogy, but the plot is different enough. The only thing in TFA that is not a direct copy of ANH is Snoke... and even Snoke may just turn into Palpatine 2.0 in the next episodes.

So apparently they are not even going to explain who Snoke is because the original trilogy did not really explain much about Palpatine either. Looks like this will be a great trilogy...

This is why, for all its many, many faults, I still applaud George for trying new things out with the prequels. What Disney are doing is just painfully obvious, chapter 11 creative bankruptcy which also amounts to some pretty appalling laziness. Not bothering to flesh out Snoke because Palpatine wasn't elaborated on is the finest proof of this. Yeah Star Wars is screwed... Like I said, cute bait fail.

This creature does not look like it belongs in Star Wars... If Disney really wanted something "cute" they should have made something that looks like a Star Wars creature/alien... not something that looks like it came out of a shitty "comical"commercial. This was fine:

Evidently Disney really liked what Rian Johnson did with The Last Jedi... they've made a deal with him to create an entire new trilogy.

I know it's probably too much to ask, but please let it be the rumoured Old Republic trilogy... Also, I guess we now know why Rian didn't take the Episode IX offer.

Evidently Disney really liked what Rian Johnson did with The Last Jedi... they've made a deal with him to create an entire new trilogy. Seems a bit ambitious, since Ep. 8 isn't even out yet. I know Lucas did mention way back that he envisioned 9-12 movies, but it seems obvious that most of his ideas will not be considered (maybe for the best...?). I hope that they are meaningful and original stories instead of rehashing the same core principles. Also, Bob Iger said they plan to release a live action TV show in 2019, which could be interesting.

The movies focus on war and the Force, but there's so much more they could do than that.

As long as the show has a decent budget, then I'm excited. Hopefully they make it a bit more mature as well (more so than something like Rebels at least).

Well, since TLJ took elements from Episodes V and VI, I wonder if that will help JJ make IX more original compared to how he handled TFA. The story really has the chance to really enter a new direction. Considering JJ's past work, I wouldn't expect too many radical shifts that are not already presented. But I think he'll attempt to shake things up a little, while still utilizing some kind of safe throwback elements to tie all three trilogies together and ensure most everyone is satisfied. In other words, I'm currently expecting something a little bolder than TFA but likely not as daring as TLJ
