JULY 13 - 19 Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute.
Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo.
While the Congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict....

I was really busy last weekend and couldn't watch it so I thought I'd go ahead and push the schedule back.

I wrote a review but my computer did some dumb shit and I had to shut it down.
This is overall a pretty good movie. It has obvious flaws but they really don’t detract much for me personally. Overall it’s a solid story with some really standout sequences.
7/10.

I last watched the prequels a few months ago, but maybe I'll go through them and the OT again if I have time.
Honestly, TPM is a really fun film until they head back to Coruscant with Anakin. All the characters, locations, and memes work well. Jar-Jar is fine here, too. Then it gets bogged down in treading too deeply into the political workings of the Star Wars universe. I'm not against that direction, but it feels half-baked and overly simple for a galaxy that ought to be as complicated as this one. Plus, what they do give us to work with isn't the most riveting.
The final half hour or so picks things up again with the action on Naboo, but how we get there isn't the most convincing. Young Skywalker has also worn out his welcome by this point for me, and I really wish he had been a little older so it didn't feel as cheesy in some moments. The Gungan battle is okay, but it's weird to see some hate it yet not the Ewoks when really the two battles have similar tones with these species.
The final duel with Maul, Kenobi, and Qui-Gon is obviously the highlight of the film though, due to stellar music, cinematography, and characters. Despite Maul being the PT's version of Boba Fett (in terms of looking cool but doing little for the plot), it's still exciting. The following sequences of the film end it on a solid note as well.
I'm not sure of a score for this movie off the top of my head, but I place it near the bottom of my ranking of Star Wars films. It's a fun first half, very weak middle, and then a brief but good finish. I understand why many hate this film, but I think TPM gets too much.

The tone shifts aren’t as jarring for me in this one and it doesn’t screech to a halt like that movie.

I didn’t like how they had Anakin blow up the control ship. Anakin really got enough of a “hero” moment with him winning the race. Including him into the end with such levels of importance was unnecessary and a bit laughable.

The podrace was really cool. But I always say they didn't need to show Anakin as a kid. The first movie starting with Anakin and Obi-Wan already master and apprentice would've worked

I got half ways through the movie before getting calls from guys at work needing help... so I’ll finish it tonight I think.
I didn’t watch the originals cause I just recently watched them like 3 months ago.
