I still can't see how they can stretch The Hobbit out into three movies but I'm optimistic about the next film. Why so? I thought the first film was very good and the trailer that was released not to long ago looked pretty promising as well. The book covers a lot and it at least need to be 2 films. I highly doubt all that content could be squeezed into a single video, but I could be wrong. The Hobbit is actually quite a short book, I can understand maybe having 2 movies but 3 is way too much.

The original trilogy was 3 movies, so maybe they wanted to just make 6 even like Star Wars did. I think the first movie was set on the beginning journey and the Misty mountains (in which it was), the second will more than likely cover the adventure in the Mirkwood forest and the Elves and etc and then the 3rd movie set upon their arrival at the mountain, the battle of the 5 armies and their return journey (Bilbo's return).

Watched The Hobbit again tonight. As always, it was outstanding. I'd give a review, but there's so much to say how good it is, I can't. Btw, I'm retreading The Hobbit novel. On page 10 and it's starting to become different. I love both the novel and film separately and for different reasons though.

Prediction time! I thought it would be fun to predict how TDOS begins (prologue thingy like all Middle-Earth films have) along with how it ends. Please note there are POSSIBLE SPOILERS. I think the intro part will be a flashback to Bilbo in the Golbin Caves with Gollum and finding the One Ring. And I think the actual film will begin with either the Eagles hideout (if they do that). If not, it will be them going straight to Beorn's. I think the movie will end with Smaug flying from Erebor to lay waste to Lake-Town. The only thing with this ending though is that even though it'd be a great cliffhanger, there would have to be a lot of added extra stuff in the final film. So what are your thoughts? Please share! I'd love to hear what you think.

And they did it for AUJ and each LOTR one so I imagine this movie will keep the trend alive. And I think what I predicted is most likely unless you have any other ideas.

Unless they alter what happened in the book...

The prologue will most likely be either an expansion on Smaug's destruction of Dale or Thorin and Gandalf's chance meeting in Bree before the actual quest began. An extensive look at Smaug destroying Dale would make sense because that's the desolation of Smaug and that's what the movie's called, and we've seen some extra clips of Smaug destroying Dale in some DOS trailers. Thorin and Gandalf meeting at Bree is something I thought would happen in An Unexpected Journey, but it didn't so I thought we'd never see it. But I found a picture the other day of Thorin and Gandalf on set filming a scene in what looked like a table in a bar in Bree, so I'm guessing we'll get that scene sometime (either as the prologue to DOS or maybe even the prologue to There and Back Again).

And then I'm pretty sure we're done with the eagles until the Battle of the Five Armies. We saw them drop the company off at the end of AUJ and fly off. DOS will probably start with the company going to Beorn's house (it looks like from trailers that Beorn's hostile towards them at first and tries to attack them in Bear form). And yes, it will probably end with Smaug flying off to Lake Town or preparing to.

Oh, that makes more sense. That would be pretty cool too. And now that I think of it, showing the Gollum part at the beginning wouldn't advance the story as much. And maybe the Bree meeting will be a flashback in the middle of the film or something.

Come to think of it, I still don't think we'll see Smaug's full size in this movie. Unless they surprise us with a clip of him destroying Dale or inside Erebor with his true enormity shown. They might save that until the last film. Or if him flying off to Lake-Town is the closing scene, maybe it will show his shadow of his full size. Or maybe actually all of him in the sky for a brief moment.

I actually think Smaug's destruction of Dale could be in the middle of the movie. Bard's a descendent of Girion, the King of Dale during its destruction by Smaug, so I think that might be setting up some personal conflict that Bard has because he should be the king of Dale (So it's almost like Thorin's situation). That would also make a lot more sense when Bard kills Smaug. So I think we may get Bard having a flashback of how his ancestor died at the hands of Smaug and how he knows he has the right to be King of Dale.

Because what you just said would make you appreciate Bard a lot more. And it would be cool to have that there. It would make the beginning seen more original too, rather than another Samug devastating Dale sequence.

I heard about this but I didn't think it was real or to scale...

It's real, and who knows if it's to scale, but that's how he'll look. Of course, we still haven't seen him standing up with his full wing span or him actually moving around and talking.

I wonder if we'll get another flashback with Thranduil and Thorin. That would be interesting. Or at least something like that with the elves. Not to mention something referring to Dol Guldur.

We might, and there was also an extended scene of Thranduil and the elves meeting with Thror and the dwarves in Erebor in the AUJ Extended Edition. It showed the dwarves being greedy or something like that so it made the elves hate them. But I'm pretty sure Azog and the orcs are going to follow Thorin and company into Mirkwood and then they'll run into the elves like we saw in the trailer. Thranduil will get mad the dwarves led orcs into Mirkwood and it will cause more rivalry.

Oh, and I think Azog might fight Gandalf in DOS (which would make sense because they're shown fighting in the Dol Guldur Battle Lego set). The actor that played Azog said something about that during the premiere of DOS I think.

They'll probably lose though and head south the Dol Guldur. That or they're summoned. Just some speculation here. And I really want to watch the Extended Edition!
