Yeah Spider's ragequit was kinda weird lol I liked him too I think it's honestly kind of a little awkward at this point with just us left... Haha. It's like how much longer do we keep it going here? I mean I think I will keep commenting about new Star Wars stuff as long as the site is up. If something happens to the site and potato isn't around to do something, I think that's fine, it'll be like a natural parting Even if it shut down tomorrow, I guess I would still have contact with Pinda at some point. We have each other added on RS, Steam, League… although I don’t play EU league anymore. But yeah I guess it would be like a natural parting, I’m however happy to pop in a few times a week here and talk with you all

Not to get too im14andthisisdeep but I feel like society kinda fell off after around 2012-2014. Feel like general attitudes were better back then and social media not having such a dominance was probably a good thing. Or idk maybe I just miss childhood lol. Childhood was kinda awesome. Crazy how you can never experience those years again... Guess it's time to have another existential crisis... Oh it’s definitely different now… Instagram, Tik Tok, just the general access to information. Even Smart phones is a big factor in the current generation vs all of us. We are the last generation IMO that didn’t have access to everything easily in our childhoods. Sure the internet was a thing but social media was a fledging of what it is now and smartphones weren’t a thing till we got older. I think Pinda could back me up here, but MMOs back in the day were so different then what they are now. RuneScape back in 2006 was something else. You would play for the community as much as the gameplay. The fact that you could get home from school and then talk with someone 5000 kilometers away on a video game was such a novelty before the rise of social media. In many ways videos games, especially MMOs, were the first large scale communities. I’ve heard tons of stories about people with similar experiences on World of Warcraft back in the day.

Yeah, I mean next year I think this site hits its tenth anniversary which is wild. Kind of ironic its founder, Tater isn't here anymore. Or any of his evil alter egos, which I still miss to this day I think Obi's got a point about society though. Online society back in the SW.com days was a lot different to now, arguably better. Although, like he said, might be the nostalgia talking lol Makes me miss all the users that left or moved on. Would be great to just know what they're up to now and how they're doing. Makes me wonder though, if the Star Wars website brought back the comment sections like tomorrow, would the community develop a similar way or completely different? Just wondering if we all really found lightning in a bottle with the kind of community we had Nah if it was brought back today it would be with some bs Facebook integration where you would be posting with your own name and profile imo. Would also be a lot more toxic and likely the community posting would be a bunch of older neckbeard types… I think the SW.com community benefited greatly from the fact that at the time the website was aimed at delivering a show for kids/ teens. That’s the real magical and unique part about SW.com, somehow it was really just youth commenting. There was a few adults like Firebird, Mindless Droid, Ivar, probably Tater? But overall it was mostly us kids. Also I’m just gonna say… if SW.com didn’t have the avatar/ profile pic system it wouldn’t have worked. I think that helped a lot give people identity. You always had Revan, I had Grievous, Pinda had Sidious, Firebird had Boba, MD had Kenobis starfighter, Tater had Saesee Tiin… that one fucking spammer had Darth Traya lol.

If memory serves, Tater is a similar age to me and joined around the same time as me I think you're right though. The community would likely be more argumentative, angry and full of petty debates and arguments that inevitably turn into political fights (like a Star Wars Twitter lol). Didn't really realise it until you said, but there were hardly adults there at all. Seems we really did fulfill George's aim that it's for the kids

I don’t think he ever specifically said his age. I think George originally intended TCW to be in the 8-12 range, however it ended up being consumed in the 13-18 range. It’s a weird show where the content molded itself to its audience over time rather then sticking to its guns and trying to capture the younger audience. It was because the young kids who grew up with the prequels kept with the show imo.

Would certainly explain the extreme upscale in tonal shifts

I was just thinking… about this time 10 years ago Season 5 of TCW was just starting to premiere. Which means most of us have now known each other for over 10 years I think most of us met during season 4, that’s when the SW.com message boards really started to take off. The forum will be 10 years next spring. Crazy to think about, even if it’s only really about 5 of us left ( Maverick-Jedi-Valen , Star, Kenbo, Pinda and Newan) that are semi active. Seriously it’s just us guys the only other person who has been online in 2022 was Boba back in June. Although I do see him on steam sometimes, same with a few others that used to be active here. I still got Bane on my NA league account, although I don’t think he plays much anymore. I joined sw.com in 2011... and the first Ambush Game was in 2012... so yeah it has been 10 years... kind of crazy. Didn't expect we would still be here that much later. Though it has unfortunately been getting too quiet. I wish more people had stuck around, or we at least had other ways to stay in touch with the rest.

Spider was really active til summer 2020, it's a shame that he left. Although I guess he mainly left because of political disagreements... am I remembering correctly that someone said they saw him posting alt-right content on Reddit or something? Potato always seemed to check in here every few months but it's been roughly a year since he was last online. Same with Ivar but that's going back a while. I semi keep up with CBK, but it's been a long time since he was last active too. But yeah it seems like the last 2 years it's essentially been the 5 of us who are online. I think Pinda found Spider on Reddit, but not sure. Shame that he left I liked him, he was one I was pretty close with. I still see CBK online on steam quite often. We never knew all that much about Tater, but I think he was always older then most of us. Yeah, I knew Spider's Reddit account because he shared some of his posts here. I think there were always political disagreements between me and Spider, although we funnily enough almost always agreed on other stuff. So I didn't have anything against him, and I feel like our disagreements were not as extreme as they were back in 2013. But he went a bit too far into the Trump cult I think, so I think that caused him to leave. When I came across him on Reddit again he was posting Trump stuff in a Star Wars thread I believe, and his post history was all about Trump and voter fraud and that kind of stuff. A lot of his post he was pretending to be a democrat who loved voter fraud, so basically he was spreading fake news. I think he just radicalized, I tried looking his account up again but it seems like he got banned. So no idea how he is doing now.

Now there are these larger platforms that are dominant, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit. Until about 2015-2016 there were still a lot of local small-scale forums, like this one actually. I preferred that very much. You knew the people you were talking to. Now it has all gotten too large. Like when was the last time you looked something up and came across a small non-commercial site? You used to have that all the time back in the day, now it is all social media or Quora. Like there was this really active Dutch RuneScape forum I used from like 2007/2008 onwards. It was large enough that it had a lot of info on it about the game, but also small enough that you would run into the same users again and again. You kind of got to know them. Like once I ran into one of those people in game in the PVP zone and they spared me because they recognized me from the forum. Now this has been taken over by Subreddits, I went to look up the forum, it is completely dead even though the game is still fairly active. And that just sucks. I think when we were younger the Internet was still young as well and it had not yet been completely hijacked by the big corporations yet. Now it has become commercialized like everything else. A comment section like the one of SW.com would now probably work through a Facebook or Google login, it would not longer be its own thing.

In fact, I think RuneScape is what made me find YouTube for the first time. It is crazy to think now that YouTube has has only been around for 17 years, RuneScape preceded it by 4. MMOs are kind of dead now though. I just read an article stating that mobile games now make up more than half of the gaming market... which is shit as they are almost all pay-to-win, but I think that is the next generation growing up with phones as their primary way to access the internet, while I was still impressed in 2008 when my Nintendo DS could connect to something called 'Wifi'.

I thought about saying the same thing that there are no longer many small forums but I feel like I have still run into some small communities about niche subjects in recent times. But yeah I imagine overall there are not as many anymore and the ones there are are probably not active. Maybe you can achieve similar communities on Reddit like I have seen some small subreddits where you start to recognize regular users. But still it doesn't feel super tight knit. I think sw.com felt tight knit largely because of our games actually. It was kinda the same 20 or whatever people that would participate so that sort of became an online friend group I guess you could call it. Some of us would even chat with each other in those 3d party chat rooms. I remember stumbling onto some very weird chat rooms, no idea how people even found them. No way they're still a thing lol

I finally got lego Skywalker saga since it was on sale. Played TPM and AOTC and part of ROTS so far. I guess it's pretty cool. Made me more nostalgic about the OG games. I feel like they missed some opportunities though like it's kinda strange there's no battle of Coruscant starfighter level for ROTS. There have been a few moments where I feel like things are odd or missing but maybe they were just trying to do something different and not totally copy the original games. One nitpick I have is the boss fights might be just a bit too long and also the cutting door with lightsaber mechanic is trash...
But I will never tire of hearing TCW VAs. I think Sam Witwer is doing Palpatine? His Emperor voice is decent but doesn’t sound right for the Chancellor lol

Mobile games are absolutely massive in China and most of the eastern countries in general. It’s why Jagex pushed (or was forced into by Tencent most likely…) to get RS mobile out. I don’t think it improved the population that much but I’m sure they hit their target audience of getting a few huge whales to spend big. But yeah I think you are right, MMOs for what they should be are dead for sure. You can play almost every MMO and not interact with a single person these days. I was playing New World actually as it was $20 on Steam and I got to level 30 and never saw a reason to interact with anyone. Although they do got a cool feature of proximity chat in open world where you can talk to people on headset if you wanted. RuneScapes longevity is unparalleled though, I spent most of my time in early RS just playing mini games with people lol

I could forgive a lot of its shortcomings, but I cannot abide by reducing the Battle of Coruscant, one of the best scenes in Star Wars history to a flash in the pan cutscene. They must have been crunching because you'd have to be a colossal bone head to decide to skip it Yeah Mace vs Palpatine I also thought would be a mission but just another cutscene. That one was especially weird because I think the entire mission is basically Mace and Kit just walking from the Jedi temple to the senate building lol They definitely wanted to make this the be all, end all LEGO game but became too expensive I suppose.

Yeah I had a feeling this was the case. I started ANH and just the Tantive level alone felt better than most of the PT missions Honestly I still want to go back and get the platinum trophy in that game, I just did the story stuff and didn’t do almost any side stuff I don't know if I will go back for the side stuff after finishing the movies. I'm on ESB now and idk I don't think I'm loving the game. Some parts feel kinda dragged out and I don't think I like how some missions feel like you're just walking to a cutscene. The OG ones were pretty fun to go back in free play and use different characters to unlock all the locations and whatnot. But I think it will feel somewhat like a chore for this one. I probably prefer the simplicity of the OG games but I can see that they would've wanted to fill this game out with extra stuff because otherwise it probably wouldn't seem worth the $60 price.

I think they should have waited another year and filled the game out a little more :/ the environments are beautiful and honestly some of the side stuff was quite fun

I'm not gonna lie, despite the complete saga being ruthlessly simple, there's a nice charm there that hasn't been matched. Plus the nostalgia runs deep with it lol

Kinda feeling strange I'll be sailing close to 30 in a couple days. I mean, I don't feel much different to how I did when I was 20, but just knowing how long I've been round the sun sure feels strange

Plus the nostalgia runs deep with it lol It is honestly a really fun game to just sit back and relax too, very simple but it’s basically just like going through the movie. Takes about the same time like 2-3 hours per movie as well lol.

I thought you were only a couple years older then me. I’m 24. When is your birthday?
