Yeah was like that in Canada last year. I hear a lot of people are dying over there from the heat cause no buildings are equipped for it. They aren’t really in Canada either but people are probably just more used to extreme weather in general here mainly due to our winters and stuff. To be honest, I'm never surprised when you say about these crazy temperatures where you are because they seem to be so crazily common for you Good news is the worst of it is well and truly over now. Although the grass is as yellow as a Texan suburd lol It’s really hot here now, was +38 Celsius the other day… I’ve just been in the basement watching movies with the dog lol

This is my first summer in my house and we have two huge windows on the south which means it basically turns into a greenhouse anytime the temperatures go above 20 celsius. So the past week has not been fun. At least we have solar panels on the south too so our electricity is basically free now...

Bit of a deal with the devil then with that kind of trade off On a plus note, seems the rains have arrived, so that should mean cooler air. Makes me think we'll somehow get an ice age of a winter later in the year though lol

How was the holiday? Me and my brother just got back from a convention as he wanted to go show off his new Luke cosplay I was going to watch Rings of Power tomorrow. Been mixed with reactions, so unsure how I'll react. You seen it yet?

Pretty enjoyable, went to the other side of the country to visit my family (like 8 hours of flights plus layovers ) but it was fun to see everyone again, hadn’t seen them since 2018. Was gonna go in 2020 and then Covid happened. That’s pretty cool, he will be prepared for celebration next year No, not yet. I think I’ll wait till it’s all out, I didn’t extend my Amazon Prime back in June since I hadn’t been using it much. Around the time Rings of Power ends is when I’ll probably start doing Christmas shopping and that’s when I mostly use Amazon, so yeah might wait for that probably will start House of the Dragon soon though. Andor and Bad Batch are also Sept 21st and 22nd respectively, so lots too watch.

Hey all!! Been away on vacation for a few weeks. How’s things going? Anyone still in school this September? Also anyone watching House of the Dragon or Rings of Power yet? Yeah I just started my master degree in European Law, so I am still in "school", though this should be my last year. I am studying really close to where I live now for the first time, which is very convenient. But I am a bit worried because I don't have a bachelor degree in law (though I do have a lot of credits in European law courses), so I might be at a disadvantage. What have you been up to? I watched House of the Dragon and it is pretty good. Kind of like the first four seasons of Game of Thrones... except that it is a bit more scaled down, like we only follow a handful of characters at this point and it mostly takes place in King's Landing. But I think things may get more complex as time passes. I did read Fire and Blood when it came out though, so I kind of know how the show will end... though I have forgotten most of the plot. I thought (and I know this is an unpopular opinion) the Lord of the Rings movies were terrible, so I am not too interested in Rings of Power... but I might watch it when I am bored.

Here I don’t think there’s really a Bachelor in law, you kind of do a Bachelor in political science or history first and then write the bar examine to get into law school for your masters. I’m still working retail, trying to become a franchised grocery store owner tbh. On my current track I should get there in a few years if nothing messes up. I like what I do and put my schooling on hold to do it. I’ve watched the first episode of House of the Dragon, I liked it too. Need to get caught up. Star and I were actually discussing it over the in Mos Eisley TV thread. I haven’t read the book, but I think as time passes it will be more obvious how it will end anyways. Kind of the fate with all prequels really.

I actually got into LOTR pretty late as well compared to when it came out. Honestly of the 3 most popular fantasy stuff atm The Witcher universe would be #1 for me and then I think LOTR would just edge out GOT and that’s honestly because they dropped the ball hard with the end of GOT.

And I guess we all know where House of the Dragon is headed, we know the Targaryens rule for another 200ish years and I am fairly certain they actually explained how the Dance of Dragons ends in Game of Thrones itself... but still I know a few major character deaths... luckily I forgot most of the rest though.

Meh, it is alright so far. I just feel like the way of thinking of law students is a bit different than what I am used to... but I think I will manage. I only watched LOTR when I was like 18 I think and I just didn't like it all. Cannot really say why, I guess that it feels a bit generic now. Back when it came out it was probably pretty revolutionary. I also don't really like the way how all bad characters seems to be pure evil, and the fact that there are elves and dwarves and stuff like that. And the films seem to consist of people just walking for a way too significant portion of the plot.

Oh yeah, basically any Bachelor of Arts degree could help get you into law school here depending on exactly what you studied. Although you might have to do an extra year or two which I likely would have had too. I’m not liking the show after the last episode, it made the cliffhanger in episode 5 pointless and the new Rhaenyra actress is way inferior to the younger one.

I know how different lines of thinking can be hard to get around I will admit, it does have some generic feel to it, but mostly because this is like the OG of fantasy stories, so I guess it is sort of tropey, given how so many have used the tropes it made up And I do get what you mean about the villains. It's just a bit lacking in substance to have them be some pure evil force with little room for more character.

I was just thinking… about this time 10 years ago Season 5 of TCW was just starting to premiere. Which means most of us have now known each other for over 10 years I think most of us met during season 4, that’s when the SW.com message boards really started to take off. The forum will be 10 years next spring. Crazy to think about, even if it’s only really about 5 of us left ( Maverick-Jedi-Valen , Star, Kenbo, Pinda and Newan) that are semi active. Seriously it’s just us guys the only other person who has been online in 2022 was Boba back in June. Although I do see him on steam sometimes, same with a few others that used to be active here. I still got Bane on my NA league account, although I don’t think he plays much anymore.

But wow that's wild this forum is going to be 10 years old, although I'm pretty sure after its first 3-4 years the activity dropped substantially. I guess much of that comes with us all growing older and the AGs gradually ending. It's cool that we're all still here sporadically

Spider was really active til summer 2020, it's a shame that he left. Although I guess he mainly left because of political disagreements... am I remembering correctly that someone said they saw him posting alt-right content on Reddit or something?
Potato always seemed to check in here every few months but it's been roughly a year since he was last online. Same with Ivar but that's going back a while. I semi keep up with CBK, but it's been a long time since he was last active too.
But yeah it seems like the last 2 years it's essentially been the 5 of us who are online.

Nexus route no longer exists and I don’t think there was any other sites made other then this one. I feel like SW.com is probably an anomaly for comment sections to have the community that it did. I wonder what someone’s reaction that ran SW.com would be to learn the community has survived this long. It wasn’t a well maintained comment section by any means, but still something about it. I mean just the fact that you could delete other peoples posts and stuff by spam clicking is kinda funny lol.

When did the SW.com message boards actually get deleted? 2015 I think? I remember we were recruiting people from there for awhile when we made this site.
At our peak though we would have 20-25 members online here a day, and usually 5 people active at any one time. I remember some days we put like 5-10 pages of comments into the cantina alone. I know the largest game had 15 or 16 participants plus the host.

I think it's honestly kind of a little awkward at this point with just us left... Haha. It's like how much longer do we keep it going here? I mean I think I will keep commenting about new Star Wars stuff as long as the site is up. If something happens to the site and potato isn't around to do something, I think that's fine, it'll be like a natural parting

Wonder whats going on with them all now. Definitely a peculiar community. I experienced basically the same thing around 2015-2017 I believe on another site called mocpages which was a Lego community. The one owner/creator it had neglected the site so much and it was so buggy towards its end. Eventually I think he pulled the plug. Shut it down or stopped paying for the domain or whatever. No warning either so everyone that didn't have backups of their stuff lost it all. A lot of people tried reaching out to him but he always ignored them. There were a few tight knit communities like on sw.com there too but probably much smaller. I know one of the biggest groups I was in tried to move to Flickr and a wikia and maybe like 5 people were active there but that dwindled too. I think one guy still posts stuff there once in a while. Idk why, basically shouting into a void lol

Not to get too im14andthisisdeep but I feel like society kinda fell off after around 2012-2014. Feel like general attitudes were better back then and social media not having such a dominance was probably a good thing.
Or idk maybe I just miss childhood lol. Childhood was kinda awesome. Crazy how you can never experience those years again... Guess it's time to have another existential crisis...

Yeah, I mean next year I think this site hits its tenth anniversary which is wild. Kind of ironic its founder, Tater isn't here anymore. Or any of his evil alter egos, which I still miss to this day I think Obi's got a point about society though. Online society back in the SW.com days was a lot different to now, arguably better. Although, like he said, might be the nostalgia talking lol Makes me miss all the users that left or moved on. Would be great to just know what they're up to now and how they're doing. Makes me wonder though, if the Star Wars website brought back the comment sections like tomorrow, would the community develop a similar way or completely different? Just wondering if we all really found lightning in a bottle with the kind of community we had
